Here’s the thing - there’s a lot going on for Brexit at a logical level - a project at EU level is hard to scale and manage so will be inefficient for various reasons - then there’s the aspects of sovereignty and independence (not that I give a toss but to some it’s important) - also aspects of globalisation and effects on poorer nations etc.
From that perspective I don’t have any problems with Brexit and would’ve even voted for it.
The thing that prevented me from doing so was the fact that the issue was hijacked by opportunistic, lazy, often racist and narrow minded a grade a$$holes who really had no vision for Brexit or a genuine forward looking agenda.
It’s a great example of a good principle totally destroyed by people driving and implementing it.

It's happened, make the best of it or get over the issues and move on and stop bitching about it,

See this exactly is why we can't have progress.
This wasn't bitching - when you make mistakes you learn from and work towards fixing things - why bother reading history or using past experience?
There will be no getting over it that easily - because at each setp the stupidy needs to be highlited as a reminder how a collective can walk into a disaster.
Sweeping things under the carpet doesn't help - unless you're a great believer in cut and run which is eactly what Brexit gave us.

You get over it and move forward or are you stuck in the past, past experience of of Communism showed me a lot, are you the type of person that is your wife left you for being a tosser that for years to come you would harass and make her life difficult to prove a point or would you just move on, I think I can guess.twenty wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:53 pm#OkBoomer

Deal with the situation we are now in and move on, who just bitch and moan at the people who used their constitutional right to vote, it may not be the decision a lot of people wanted but the majority decided to leave, there may have been disinformation, most probably from both sides but that's politics for you.
In a way I am pleased as the British have fucked most of the world over at some point in the last 250 years and now have royally fucked themselves over in one way or another, as the saying goes "what goes around comes around" and to be honest there are new opportunities to be had.

Brexit does seem to have divided the country, not quite equally cos the leavers won. It’s pretty sad that we could stand and talk for hours about e30s and if someone brought up brexit we could fall out in 5 minutes. This will probably be life for years to come or until the next vote in Scotland and then off we go again. Sad really. There are probably very few on here who have a really in depth knowledge looking forward of how good or bad it will be. We’ll be led by the nose by the newspaper’s and tv by which ever slant their multi million £ owners want to take us in. If you don’t believe that then put your hand on your heart and ask yourself how many papers and agreements have you looked up and read. ie GFA. etc etc. I haven’t read one so couldn’t put up a good argument one way or the other, if you have you know more than me if you understand it.

Yeah. I would say I'm reasonably well informed (over a decade as a Brit living in Brussels - friends and family who work/worked for the European Commission), but there's a lot I don't know / haven't read / can't predict. Most of us can only go on what we see in the media (which at best is biased and at worst is nonsense).HenryM3 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 3:34 pmBrexit does seem to have divided the country, not quite equally cos the leavers won. The EU isn't perfect, but I'd say we would all be better off with the UK as a member. I believe there are enough smart, hardworking folk in the UK to get through this mess in the longer-term. What really concerns me is that there are so many people whose day-to-day lives are so crap that they felt compelled to blame the EU.

you it really makes me laugh,
all these "experts" on here who claim to know what's going to happen,
well if you do & are so sure you know exactly what's going to happen then step up, through your hat into the political ring & make a stand,
but you wont will you? & why? because just like the rest of us you have no idea what's going to happen,
none of us do all we can do is go along for the ride & see what happens & where we end up,
far too much doom & gloom in the world right now without all the zone political experts adding to it.

Agreed, but it would have been so much better, if, when we reached that fork in the road a few years ago, we had pulled off the sticker saying "sunlit uplands" that had been stuck on the arm of the signpost we followed, and seen that it really read "unstable, crumbling coastal cliff path" underneath.

Not at all. Leaving the EU will probably significantly reduce my overall wealth, at least in the short term, but is likely to significantly boost my income, as will the current pandemic. Total wealth is only of interest to my descendants, while income is what I live on now.

Only we who live in Europe understand the full implications of it. Seeing the empty shelves in Overseas, (Iceland) and Morrisons in Gibraltar, indicate clearly the lose of overseas trade to the UK to be replaced by European goods in time. I have cancelled my UK eBay account as it is now too expensive to buy from the UK due to added VAT and import duties nearly doubling the cost and will buy from the EU only.
Example, Anything over 33€ is subject to import duty and tax. 50 pound item (55€) from the UK to EU would attract a 15% import duty, so + 8.25€ + 15€ admin charge, so now 78.25€ plus 21% VAT (IVA) at 16.43€ so 55€ is now 94.68€. nearly double. It works the other way too from EU to UK.
I also now have to carry at all times my UK passport and a residence certificate where as before all I needed was a NIE card. WE can no longer drive into Gibraltar once a month to buy UK goods as we cannot bring them back across the border and cars are now subject to searches for food stuffs and dairy products no longer allowed. They are trying to get around most of it by joining the Schengen area but it takes time for bribes to work. We expats don't need to wait and see, we are in the thick of it.
Anyway, enough already. back to the cars.

If I'm selling something from Ireland to UK, I can't add UK VAT and customs to the price - so I think this is something you'll just need to get used to if buying from outside the UK. I think in your case its a slightly different issue and its a seller from outside the UK setting their account profile as being in the UK - which is irritating. I've been caught out a few times with that.
As an aside, the cost of buying cars and parts from the UK has just jumped so much that's its killed off car imports to here - everything is now 31% more expensive (without accounting for clearance fees!). Am having to switch from a UK amazon account to the German one, same with eBay - although we can still buy from NI without any extra taxes or charges.
