The thing with a cage is you need to have all the other safety equipment that goes with it.
I.e. a proper bucket seat, not a reclining type and harness'. It won't protect you properly without all three. Ideally you should always wear a helmet when driving a car with a roll cage too as you have essentially added big bits of metal very close to your head which you can easily contact in the event of a crash.
If you want to be safe in a crash, your only option is to buy a modern shitebox

the bucket and harnesses are fine if thats what u wanna do and for people who dont mind that sorta thing like me but its not gunna help the people who wanna keep their car original and keep their reclining leather sports seats eh :/
as u say a modern shitbox is the safest option but a pretty boring one too

For me I wondered how they came up with 8 ft! Did they try it few other times at different heights? How many other turds bought it?

First thing I did watching it was go on pistonheads to see what a good 99 riddle would fetch. Only one there, which is no longer there. Power of TG sold it in a day.

Watched it this morning - didnt find it too offensive and enjoyed the saab feature.
An obviously fooked c plate moredoor on bottletops getting dropped on its roof is no great loss.

e30topless said : Proper BMW's have 4 headlights, last of the run was the E30 and E34/E32 anything after that is just complete shite
To be honest that was totally relavent to the feature and in context. When new both cars would have been aimed at the same market, the BMW being arguably the class leader at the time. Should go someway to dispelling the myth that all German cars of that era are in someway safer than other manufacturers.verde wrote:i was at work when i saw it and was like " WHAT THE ****! I did write to top gear to express my displeasure about the dropping of pianos on morris marinas in the strongest possible terms.....
....bloody waste of a good piano

It would be interesting to see the result of a Volvo and Mercedes of that age dropped on their roof.

Fifth gear had a Renault Modus go head on with a Volvo 940 at 40mph, the Modus destroyed the Volvo!

So Volvo marketing would like you to think !Morat wrote:Volvo 240 would bounce, flip over and then ram the crane... hard as nails those things.
There was an infamous ad campaign in the US in the the late 80s involving a Volvo , a load of 'competitors' and a monster truck.
Unsuprisingly the Volvo survived relatively unscathed. Until one of the people involved in the 'stunt' revealed that the Volvo had a roll cage fitted and all the other cars had their pillars cut !
Re the E30 having the doors not fully closed, that WOULD indeed make a measureable difference.
So what if the scab had stronger a posts, it was a sorry looking flid chariot with an over inflated view of its status as did the media / creative types who aspired to the sad spastic turds. Gone, finito, good riddance !

Who gives a feck, the lads who saw it at work didnt even realise it was an E30 being dropped
Would have been more accurate if the BM had just crumbled into a pile of rust n dust.
