problem with them is they have no low down torque, sound shit and you need to rev the hell of of them in order to get some proformance from them
they are pretty quick I was suprised how you kept up with the 6 pots on the 100 mile or so journey down to the pod ,even more suprised how it ran on the strip :)

get an M52 slotted in there and it will make a really good e30 me thinks 8)

My Alpina only has 141mph down as it's top speed @ 5000 rpm in 5th. Now that's with 186bhp, so it seems an IS is quicker than my Alpina and most 325i's.

Well, everybody knows God built the 318iS so obviously was divine intervention

On a serious note... I'll admit the 318iS isn't that fast either. Mine is lively and is fun to drive too especially now with 6 gears and the few mods.

The 4 pot speedos are definitely optimistic though as my iS with 150bhp and less torque than a 6 pot flat out going by the speedo is quicker than a 325i or the 24v engines
Even my old 316i was good for 130!!!

But if I could justify and afford the insurance, running costs and everything else... I would have put in the 6 speed box still attached to an engine it came with :P

I love it when people dance on the PC/Non-PC line.

318iS owners are the Jews of the E30 world - disliked the world over but are actually the chosen people.

Well my B25 anchor has on many occasion been off the clock on the speedo.

I have seen a gps 142mph out of my turd.

Oh and it gets there quite quick unlike you galvanisers who need a 5 mile run up and a tail wind!

For the record, no E30 speedos are accurate and all over read.

Demlotcrew has a calibrated one in his S14 powered 318iS.

Last year on the way to the ring he was doing 140mph and i went past him like he was standing still.

That was 3 up in the S50B30 touring.

Again 6pot :piss: over a 4 pot.

Ive had no problems with fuel economy in my tech1, we went to brum and back the over night on £15 worth of vpower which is a 80 odd mile round trip and the light came back on when we got back home, so i think they are good on juice :D Every 1.8 engine in history is a big pile of s*** from what i know

damn, mine seems slower than many 318is'sssss'sss :D
144mph on the speedo can be seen easily, even on very uphill sections of, err, private runway/autobahn/long driveway, however that's a GPS verified 132mph in the real world. oh, and the limiting factor is the 5750ish RPM rev limiter and 3.91 diff.

it doesn't creep up to the limiter and hover there either, it slams into it at full pelt :D

funnily, despite being down on power when running on LPG, it'll pull even faster as the LPG system has the limiter set at 6500RPM. not yet verified as i was running out of driveway but it was over 6000RPM

a 318is is fun and nippy but please, it's not 'fast'. theyre only about as quick as most modern european shopping cars. i even outran one in a J plate rover 414FFS! 8O

ive done 137 on the clocks and im the biggest limiting facor about the car :D To be honest i wouldnt want to take a e30 over 140 for my own safety they feel very much like my old 306 gti6 at speed which isnt good :D

Come on bazzer be smarter than that.

Your argument is more about capacity than cyclinders!

Comparing a modern M-Engine engine to an rattly racing engine is just silly. These rows are always about the 318iS V 325i and the differences are not just cylinders.

For a start, 6-Cylinder cars are as common as muck and are almost always grey or silver - yuk.

Even though the 6-Pot is carved from wood, from plans painted on a cave wall?

I've always thought E30's feel solid and stable at licence loosing speeds but then i have done 150+mph in a mk3 escort!

That was scary! 8O
