Who did you get insured with?
Confused is a load of balls.
I'm insure with AutoTrader, soon to be someone else with my M535i. Which is LESS to insure than my 325i.

There is another thread where he does state he would insure it properly. I am sure when he was a bit younger he thought about fronting, as did I back in the day.Ollie_bwoii wrote:SO if your so sure that an E30 is not the way to go then why are you looking for an E30 yourselfJoshy wrote:me a 17 year old![]()

I put a link to someone on pistonheads who got caught out fronting, it doesn't take a genius to find this forum, find your car and find your posts about insurance.
Also, think about everytime you get a quote with you as the main driver, these are recorded somewhere and I wouldn't mind betting insurance companies share these when something goes wrong. They would be looking after each other in the long term.
Do what you will, but don't crash into me.

Err, maybe because the quotes I'm getting are not in daddy's name? If I cannot get insured on a E30 in my own name all above board, then I'll get a Polo.Ollie_bwoii wrote:SO if your so sure that an E30 is not the way to go then why are you looking for an E30 yourselfJoshy wrote:me a 17 year old![]()

Never said not to go for a E30, I just said that if you cannot afford to insure one, then don't.

you're forgetting your 316i touring has 51mm front struts and something approaching brakes on the rear....
Must say though, recently acquired 316i m40 auto fairly shifts for a 4pot. very pleasant

I've wondered about that - when you have limited mileage, do the insurance company ask for proof of mileage at the beginning of the policy? And what would constitute proof? If you claim, do they ask you to demonstrate to their satisfaction that you have not exceeded the agreed mileage? How on earth can you do that? Has anyone on here claimed on a limited mileage policy? Shall I ask a few more questions for good measure

Best advice on this thread so far.Alex wrote: i would get a shitter for a year
Coming from Alex who learnt the hard way how much VALID insurance costs.
I appreciate you're really excited about getting your first car, and really want an e30, but there is a reason why insuring a 17 year old on a (relatively) powerful rwd car is so expensive.
As an inexperienced driver you're more likely to have a crash (not a slight on your driving abilities, just statistics) and even more so in the e30.
Buy a 1.0 shitter, serve your apprenticeship, then maybe Mr Insurance Man will let you have an IS or a six pot when you're 18

Yes HIC ask for the mileage at the start of the policy on a form you have to email back within 14 days. If the claim got big, it wouldn't take a genius to look at MOT certificates to asess mileage accumilated over a 12 month period(not neccesarily over the same 12 months as the policy mind).djk wrote:I've wondered about that - when you have limited mileage, do the insurance company ask for proof of mileage at the beginning of the policy? This can't 100% prove that you have covered over your mileage allowance, as someone could be driving it under a '3rd party on any vehicle' clause. It allows the insurer to build up a picture though, and we all know insurance companies like to avoid paying out.
My classic/limited mileage policy states that I pay an additional £400 excess if a claim is made outside of my 3000miles per year.
Dodgey people could easily change the mile-o-meter quite easily though. For me, 3000 miles is enough in a loud track car.
