Insurance is random.
Just reinsured the 205 on a classic policy. 200 bhp per tonne. roll cage, suspension changes, bigger engine change all declared. 22yr old with all his no claims bonus on another car, 24 year old additional male with 5 points, 50yr old with 3 points.
£409
HIC came good!

It's always worth trying all the configurations you'd be happy with - despite it seeming daft, this sort of thing is quite common in my experience. Insurance companies assess risks differently, and may target some business almost as a quasi-'loss-leader', if you get what I mean - in order to increase market share or some other consideration they will cut prices beyond their standard risk model.1an wrote:my 320 touring was cheaper fully comp then 3rd party go figure. im 19 no no claims driving 20months now. and i pay 1150

No it's not here.djk wrote:Is insurance a legal requirement in Australia? I know in some countries it isn't.Jables wrote:Jeez, insurance sounds expensive in England :/
In aus atm we pay $259 AUD a year for first party, with dad as the only driver. If they put me down for when I'm 17, it does up to $650.. Around 280-300 pounds?
I guess that's why :O

who was that with? last year i was paying 550 for 318i, I'm 21 with one non fault accident, no NCB due to being named driver on classic insurance. hoping my insurance drops a fair bit again this year being with me being 22Jon_Bmw wrote:22 4 years NCB, good postcode, lpg declared £300 TPf&T 318is.

Evidently many insurance companies regard 318i and 318is as the same thing, so an is is a bit of a winner on the insurance front.

What's the score with uninsured drivers out there then, do you just sue the party at fault and whether they're insured or not is their problem? Are there a lot of 'hit and run' incidents? Presumably most people have insurance as a simple matter of prudence anyway, much as over here.Jables wrote:No it's not here.djk wrote:Is insurance a legal requirement in Australia? The legal requirement here seems to most people a good thing on the surface, but I wonder if in practice it doesn't prevent anything. We all end up paying higher premiums as the insurance industry knows it has us by the balls - thoughts?

That was e car insurance and online only company, the cheeky buggers wanted £50 extra for the LPG conversion. I would have been down into the £250 figure otherwise.adam_b wrote:who was that with? last year i was paying 550 for 318i, I'm 21 with one non fault accident, no NCB due to being named driver on classic insurance. hoping my insurance drops a fair bit again this year being with me being 22Jon_Bmw wrote:22 4 years NCB, good postcode, lpg declared £300 TPf&T 318is.
