Hartge M3 breaking
Moderator: martauto
A great project
. It seems that the original 17'' modular wheels may have long since departed the car
.
You probably have seen it already, but have a look in the Hartge section here for an original german road test: http://e30.de/
Very purposeful looking with 265(!) rear tyres. All the best with it.

I did have a browse through there last night to see if there was more info. On one of the period german road tests of the M3 H35-24 (which I think is actually called an H36, with the H35-24 being a normal bodyshell with the s38 hartge engine) it says the car had 16" wheels.evostormm wrote:A great project. Dan/Jon - LOL. It's no iS....
I'm not, they're delivering it! All paid for, just needs the area of impact cutting out for some retarded legal/contractual reason and then it will be delivered to my doorstep - free of charge!SteSE wrote:![]()

Try speaking to Ian Ross (H35Ian/amongst other screen names) He has a H35 (NON-24v) and has done a lot of the research into the individual bespoke parts, eg brake discs!!!!!! which are NLA and custom basically.
Yeah mate, you're welcome to a ride in it when it's done which in fairness will probably be a very long time from now.
Cheers for the heads-up Scott, I might see what info he can reveal. There certainly are a lot of funky parts, the front brakes are one of the original features which may have gone missing as the looked to be standard m3 jobbies, but I suppose the difference in diameter is only 15mm so I wont know for sure until i've properly inspected them. The rear brakes looked non-standard come to think of it.

Why dont you sell the sr20 and put all the h35 gear into the 316i, it will be a proper sleeper
The badge on the back of the car in the road test, photo 6 on the last of the Hartge articles, shows the (test) M3 car to be an H35-24 and with the 17'' modular wheels (works of art in themselves).Theo325 wrote:I did have a browse through there last night to see if there was more info. There's even been a debate about nomenclature;
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e34-m5 ... 6-e30.html
Interesting link, allbeit slightly confusing. For what it's worth, there was a number ingraved in the turret above where the vin plaque sat which contained H36.
The SR20 will be a cool track car once it's done, the h36 will be a great road car and I want it to be as original as possible. Why dont you sell the sr20 and put all the h35 gear into the 316i, it will be a proper sleeper

Theo - just wanted to offer my congratulations on a first class effort. A car with real history (one of 6!) that deserves saving and putting back on the road.
Pick it up asap - so bits don't start walking off the car......

It's not so much the public I'm worried about; call me a cynic but it's the vendor and maybe the employees I'm unwilling to trust unless you know them well?Theo325 wrote:Thanks, I don't think bits will be going missing though. It's locked in the garage at the yard which the public isn't allowed in.
Apologies if you know the business selling the car personally and can vouch for their honesty etc etc.
I don't know them well. I did spend a couple of hours up there yesterday ironing out the deal and talking to the owner and he, and his employees I talked to came across very well. I've also got an itemised receipt for what I've purchased just to be on the safe side.

Those look like stock throttles to me.bss325i wrote:To hazard a guess i would say cams and some management work but here is a pic of the M88 on the back of the 88/89 Hargte catalouge and as you can clearly see, the throttles have been played with.tomson wrote:Yes, that engine is definately a S38. Any idea what Hartge "tweaked" to get 330bhp?bss325i wrote:After a little research between me and another zoner it transpires that the H35/36 24v used both the M88 and later cars the S38 as found in the E34 M5.
This one has the S38
The M88B35 is normally 286bhp but Hartge tweaked it to 300bhp.
The S38B36 is normally 316bhp and Hartge tweaked it to 330bhp!
Total weapon and no wonder some owners have run out of tallent!

The trumpets are probably visible inside the plenum?bss325i wrote:With trumpets?
