Town driving and M20= expensive, even driving like douglas bader doesnt really improve things

I have a leaking exhaust manifold (two sheared bolts.... ) that i have been meaning to drill out and get helicoiled, i recon that might help with mine abit. but i have noticed a drop of about 2mpg in the last year, and cant work out where its gone (bolts have been sheared the whole time)..... i change oil and filters regularly, and fix anything that starts to go wrong. any ideas?

Stab in the dark.... blue temp sensor dying but not quite dead yet, could make it run its richer 'warm up' fueling for longer than it should?



Would 400 miles to a tank on 95% motorway driving be do-able in a 89 320 touring? my current car can do it, just, on a 50L tank

Thats poor fuel consumption! My 325 cabby on the motorway will give me over 300 miles to a tankfull, even with a leaking fuel tank (now replaced) driving around town and giving it a bit of stick I got 225miles to a tank full.
If I were you i'd get underneath and check for leeks.
I can do about 50 miles when the gauge reads empty untill the light comes on and then another 30-40miles untill it runs out.

Something i have been interested in knowing with my 30,,,,

My results for my 2.7 turbo with 3.25 LSD, running on 17 s

( given that 1 gallon = 4.54609 litres)

Driving at 70 Mph approx 2600 RPM = 33 mpg or 7.2589 miles per litre = £0.1460 pence per mile
Driving at warp in boost (only 1 Bar at the mo) = 12 mpg or 2.6396 miles per litre = £0.4030 pence per mile

Engine is brand new (2435 miles) and maybe still a bit tight,,

Can easily do a tank full in a couple of hours,,,

I can remember paying 70p a gallon
In fact, if I go back to my first part-time job - as a forecourt attendant, remember them? - it was 35p a gallon. That would have been 1972 IIRC.

.........used to get 3 gallons for 10 bob in my 1961 mini.... lasted all week too

Oh Yes and so far a I know the all(including tourings) the later cars have 63ltre tanks the the early ones the 55 litre tanks
