Congestion charge exemption!!!Geoff wrote:Multi point is the way forward. Yes its more expensive, but it is by far the better system to be using. Better mpg and performance...what more could you ask for!davidorme591 wrote:I have just had my E34 525i SE convereted to LPG, it is paying for itself.. I am saving over £200 on petrol pump prices. The installation cost just under £2k, however, it is totally auto, (starts on petrol and switches over to gas) and has it own ECU and returns average 26/34mpg/. So at 52p a Ltr it gives you a smile every time you fill up. Mine is a multipoint system and the car runs smoother on gas that it does on petrol! I can recommend an Installer too. I will have my E30 320 convertible done later in the year.. No noticeabole loss of performance either..
LPG costs . . .

This is a good link for anyone wishing to have a system installed by a 'specialist'

I have seen some interesting things on specialist installed lpg setups, they often don't have the same level of care taken over them as diy installs. The amount of M5x BMWs where all the pipework and injectors etc in the bay are exposed etc is jsut lazy because the company has not removed the inlet manifold and installed everything neatly. On the 328 I did (and I'm guessing on yours too dan) you can hardly tell LPG is installed other than by the vaporiser. the pipework on my e30 was done by a specialist and the pipe from tank to engine bay was hitting the rear ARB when the car was jacked after their install. Had to alter it myself to prevent this.

Could you point me towards a good lpg forum and source to buy the kits from?Brianmoooore wrote:Stick with an AEB Leonardo or Millenium ECU and control system and a reasonable brand of vapouriser, and you can't go wrong for an E30.ShakeyC wrote:There seems to be hundreds of brands and companies out there, how do we know what is a good product brands and company to use for both diy and professional installs if lpga is no real indication? How would i find a local supplier?
The way to avoid the cowboy installers is to DIY if at all possible, with help from here or the LPG online forums.
It really is easy to install a venturi LPG system, as long as you don't try to bodge anything, take no shortcuts, and follow the COP11 guidelines.

COP 11, to make sure you do it right: http://www.geocities.com/lpgmanuk/cop11.html Note that this is an outdated version of COP11, but is largely still applicable. Main difference is the requirement for a solenoid operated valve at the outlet of the gas tank, as well as/instead of the manual valve.

I got my kit from http://www.gordonfinlay-lpgconversions.co.uk/ I couldn't fault Gordon's service. I must have exchanged over a dozen e-mails with him before I actually committed to buy, he was very patient with me.

I've just got hold of an LPG system with a view to fitting it to my 3.5. It's made by BRC, does anyone have any experience with these kits? Slightly worryingly it's labelled 'Modello 140kW', which can safely be assumed to be the power capactiy in kilowatts (190ish bhp), which is well below the 220ish bhp of the m30.
Here's a pic of the electrical bits, what are the two control unit things on the left?
