Though I took to rally driving a lot easier!!

I'm going to have a crack at the ROSPA advanced driving, I know the dude who runs it in Yeovil.

I'd love some proper track experience and instruction.
If you want to organise a group outing I would be up for this as well mate, we might be able to get some decent discounts :)

WRT 205 GTI vs E30 the pug 205 GTI was just in response to the mk1 GTI, another fine german chariot :)

But the 1.9 205 GTI is a great trackable car and for little money can go rallying but is still no competition like for like on a track with experienced drivers at the wheel of each. The only french car I would even consider is a 205 GTI.

No mate. The op was complaining about being pwned by 1.6's. Your Mi-16 is a veritable weapon in a sardine tin!! Two entirely different entities!

Renault electrics are the bain of my life! Renault gearboxes are made of chocolate, the variable cam timing units called a "de-phaser" fail like there is no tomorrow etc. The list of crap goes on and on, their warranty claims are endless and the funniest thing which makes me laugh the most is, Renault aim to get the new Laguna in the top three of its market sector in terms of sales, quality and reliability! The direct competition is the 3 series, Audi A4, VW Passat, Ford Mondeo etc. Its just laughable realy!

Mods for christ sake lock this pointless thread.

E30s vs French cars????? There is no comparison? The french could not engineer a f*ckin pram let alone a car.
Best cuisine in the world? B0ll0cks! Give me italian anyday.
France as a country? what the f*ck is all that about? A weekend in Skegness is more picturesque.
Eiffel Tower? Got one in Blackpool thanks.
Mont st micheal? I'll go to Cornwall and see St Micheals mount cheers very much.
Were they not the first to cave in to the Euro? I may be wrong on that but if I'm not? Says it all really.
First Concorde to crash (and signalling it's demise)? Air France!
Jean Michel Jarre? Give me a Bontempi organ and two hours and I'll write something for you.

The only thing France is useful for is cheap booze and theres a downside to that! You have to go to France for it.

E30s vs French cars? Yeah right!!!

Don't EVER get me on the french thing!!!!! Just ask Jesus.

I had a 1600 205 GTi and loved it to bits. I used it for a couple of track days and it was good fun, it handled well and was pretty quick BUT! I much prefered my E30 320 on the track, it was just more rewarding when you got it right. RWD is always the way forward. :D

205's may be front wheel drive but they can be driven like a rear wheel drive, i love them! twitch the steering on the brakes, straighten the wheel and go round on the throttle, one of the best fun cars you can drive-FACT! haha, i'd swap my iS's for a 309gti with an mi16 engine any day

You couldn't lap a roundabout sideways in a 205, continually. Lift off over steer is miles away from power sliding.

I seem to remember Fiat ran an advertising campaign in the mid '80s boasting about how an Uno turbo was quicker 0-60 than a 911 ( or might have been a 944...can't remember ) - anyway - didnt really do porsche much damage did it ?

A few years ago if all you wanted was to go fast you would buy a Renault 5 GT Turbo - quicker than most cars on the road over short distances but made out of coke cans and often seen at the side of the road in a cloud of steam.....French cars are OK if you like spending a lot of time at the parts counter. winkeye

Yeah, I went into a Fiat dealer and asked for a new wiper for the Uno, he though it was a fair swap. :duck:

E30 or a french car.............err im still driving an E30

I have still not changed my car because I can't find anything to replace it with. Newer BMW's? sorry too big and too heavy. 1 Series larger than the E30

KW shocks & springs with a 60/40mm drop
H&R adjustable Anti Roll Bars
E30Zone chip
Twin tube strut brace
Hartge wheels (lighter than Xspokes)

Works for me :D

Owned 18 cars since I passed my test - VW, BMW, Audi, Ford, Vauxhall. Nothing French.

My missus owns an 02 plate Laguna......lovely comfortable car but she had to spend £1500 on a replacement gearbox last year....I rest my case.....

Spending time at an independent garage and working on all makes of car. I can confirm what has already been said. Avoid French like the plague!

Yes they are cheap and yes you get lots of equipment, but theres good reason for that. Non of its actually any good!

I hate them with a firey passion. :cheese:

Here are some comparisons:

They both look about the same size, but the e30 feels narrower to drive and possibly is slightly narrower.
