Don't think so mate - from what I can remember from my old Ford days a Pinto's are cast iron and weighs about the same as a Rover V8....Onz wrote:pinto must lower the overall weight of the car though and balance would be good too. I would be interested in the spring rates used as the front of the car might jack up quite a bit on standard springs.

hmm might be an issue with engine mounts from fwd position to rwd but it could be worked out. god only knows how the sump would work out.Onz wrote:But how would you mount the engine and which loom would you use?
a custom loom could be made up.
i have had thoughts on mad conversions before, i measured up a scooby but the engine is wayyyyy to wide for the e30. i briefly thought on a mid engined version instead right before the breadknife told me to get a fucking grip

Did your 100 s4 that met a deer end up in a breakers? If so did you keep the engine? With ancilleries etc etc they are worth nigh on a grand(pretty much the same as the whole car!)agent006 wrote:I still have back-burner plans to put an Audi 5 cylinder turbo engine into an E30 at some point.
someone up north on another board has a 2.0 vtec in theres. if i find the thread ill post it up here.
outta curiosity would a 3.0 csl e46 engine fit into a normal e30 engine bay? always thought that combining old shell with new insides would be cool. probs been done just havent looked it up, lazy boy!

No idea. Not seen the car anywhere since. Wasn't interested in getting the salvage at the time. The engine in mine was quite crudely tuned by the previous owner so wouldn't be a good starting point anyhow.

i think a VAG 20v 4 CYL 1.8T longditudinal version from an Audi would be better anyway. Easily tuned to 450/500 BHP and 250 with minimal lag. I had an A6 with that engine and it was much better than the old 5 CYL versions.agent006 wrote:No idea. Not seen the car anywhere since. Wasn't interested in getting the salvage at the time. True but it doesn't sound like a 5 cylinder though! AAN and its siblings will tune to 285 with just software, 330 with breathing and injectors. 650-700 is the limit for a well behaved reliable one but over 1000 is possible. Expertise for 650+ is overseas unfortunately.
Down with the 4 pot rubbish. The AAN 5 cylinder is a cracking motor. Just too much weight over the front wheels in most of the cars they put it in...not a problem in a funky e30 engine swap as you can put it where you like, within reason.
