Now if anyone can find a way of extending the rev range safely and adjust fuel and sparks to suit, it's a route to more power

Theyre just not a very tunable engine without spending big money from what I can see. Mine has the Alpina sports pack which should mean it has a different cam/ecu and exhaust system but its still not very quick. The XE in my Astra was great for tuning.

Your right, they do require big money for getting any decent gains. Its so not fair! All these turbo boys go out and buy a chip and get 40bhp increases. We have to spend Ԛ£4000 to get that sort of power hike.Adammcf wrote:Theyre just not a very tunable engine without spending big money from what I can see. Turbo charging is the cheapest way to get big power gains or just sticking in a much bigger engine.
Your Alpina Sport pack sport should be different to a standard sport. For one the power delivery should be totally different. However, I agree its still doesnt make for a much faster car in reailty unless we are talking over 60mph where there should be a noticeable difference.

Everyone talks about a chip, MAF conversion, and 6 branch making a good difference but I have all of these (well actually standalone engine managment system with MAP sensor, 6 branch, and a full custom exhaust) and they haven't made any difference for me. Maybe it is just because I have 2.3L but it is only 200cc less and still the same engine.
The only time I have felt a slight improvement in acceleration was when I got a 4.1 LSD (replaced my 3.25 LSD).
I'd try the throttle body and camshaft but I don't feel link spending any more money on upgrades that get me nowhere, at least for the moment

All that hasnt made any difference? That can only mean that the 323i was already fully optimised the way BMW set it up.
There is a limit to every engine, no matter what you do you will not exceed those limits unless you go forced induction etc.
Adding standalone management to a 2.5 certainly makes a difference! Even a BBTB makes a difference.

throttle body is cheap to do, try it n see - you could always sell it afterastondg wrote:Everyone talks about a chip, MAF conversion, and 6 branch making a good difference but I have all of these (well actually standalone engine managment system with MAP sensor, 6 branch, and a full custom exhaust) and they haven't made any difference for me. It hasn't made any noticable difference for me. Maybe it would to someone else but I really can't feel it.M5pilot wrote:All that hasnt made any difference? That can only mean that the 323i was already fully optimised the way BMW set it up.

I could try a throttle body though and sell it like you said if it didn't work. I think my fuel injectors must be getting close to their limit though (I had another thread about this) so more air mightn't make a difference. But I'll have a look at getting one anyway.

No one ever bothered with tunining the 2.3 engine in this form. They always changed it by boring or changing the crank and all that.
This must of been for a reason. I've done alot of reading and never come across tuned up 2.3's. Maybe wrong but someone would of done it by now?!
