Could've sworn all the 6-pots are 62 litres and all the 4-pots (well maybe not the M3) were 55, except for the 4-pot Lux's like mine which have a 62 litre tank
Likely I'm wrong though if you're sure it's 60 Jesus

I just carry an rac card no its loads lighterJesus325iTouring wrote:Stu.....No fortunatly,it never seems too! However,i'm a firm believer in preperation, thats why it takes me so long to get things done!
Main reason for carrying every tool under the sun when going on a trip is,if something happens,I'll do my damnedest to fix it rather than call for emergency services, which I refuse to spend money on!
I've only ever been stranded (not in the Tourer) when i've not had tools to fix the fault, this way I cover all aspects except major breakdown such as blown up motor![]()
Also,i feel it tempts fate, meaning,if i waste my energy loading up all the tools and spare bits, waste fuel by carryi ng lots of extra weight, chances are I won't breakdown,if I were to think sod it and not take anything,i WILL breakdown!![]()
Schmick......Good to hear from you mate, any news on the UK move?
Oh,and I don't usually get such good MPG,usually on day to day basis, but it's good to know it has got good economy hidden in there somewhere!
Turbo Brown......I think its true to say my engine is now worn in!!![]()
Andy-Magic........Dude,I fooking wet myself with your "bones removed from foot" comment!!!![]()

Geeman,Geeman,Geeman......So sorry to not have called you up,had I been on my own and not on some kind time schedule I would have,of course! You need Jesus in your life!!![]()
![]()
BTW mate,do you ever call the Radio 2 Traffic Hotline?? I've heard someone called Geeman call up a few times to report traffic problems.
Next time i'm in Lincoln,I will call you up,providing you don't mind my whole tribe coming in for a cup of coffee or two and a couple of glasses of squash for the kids!
Monsport........I didn't need patience,my wallet informed me under the strictest terms frugal driveing was of the esscence
I don't mind driving slowly when the families in the car TBH,but when I'm on my own driving like this it really is a drag!
![]()
Good point about running out on the mototrway, but I was prepared with a can of fuel, just in case!
Hoshy.....You need lessons from the master of frugal driving,if your evar in Chippenham,i'll show you how,or you could use the previously mentioned tip and remove all the bones from your right foot!![]()
Jon......Yup,I felt my good deed was a good deed to far,if i see anyone now and i'm low on fuel, sod it,they can walk!!
320i Touring.....Nope,i don't have along range tank,i put in exactly 57.36 litres, and i've added the reciept as proof! You've seen the clean car evidense and i reckon you and eveyone else who mentioned it must be right about the lack of dirt being a major contributory factor!
Martinnaston........,I can remember as far back as being able to fill a 5 litre jerry can for Ԛ£2.50,cost just over a fiver now![]()
![]()
And when my FS1E was on the road,it used to cost me Ԛ£3.00 including adding oil to the petrol per week to run! Wish The Tourer was THAT good!

That bones in the foot thing was said to me during the Fuel crisis a few years ago.
I had a turbo Diesel rover 218 that was a proper shed, but I got it for a song. anyway, during the diesel drought I got 62mpg out of the rover as I had to take it easy. That was until I found the local boat yard would sell you red but only in a can.
Everyone was talking about fuel consumption and someone said about the bones in my right foot - well funny.
I went up to cambridge in my 320 yesterday and thought I'd check the milage as the fuel light had just come one before I left, stuck Ԛ£20 in at 86.9 a litre and pressed the trip button, drove up to cambridge and loads of trips around the area and then back again, mostly at 75-80 with the odd burst when overtaking stuff, there were a few occasions when I forgot myself and floored it up to about 6k rpm, but not many. I got 175 miles when the light come on which makes for 34.1 mpg.

Apparantly, when the fuel light comes on,your on to "reserve" tank which holds nine litres,I guess if the tank were to be completely dry you might get 70 litres in,though I gotta say,I tend to agree with you,70 seems a bit much.Richy325iTouring wrote:most ive got in mine was 60 odd liters no where near 70 and i know that i never had at least 10 liters in the car

I put 57 litres in,and find it hard to believe there was still 13 litres left in the tank as the light hed been on for about 20 miles.
HOWEVER,I couldn't find my hand book, and these are the Haynes figures

Thats pretty good too, moreso as its the 320 which aren't reknown for their economy!Andy_magic wrote:That bones in the foot thing was said to me during the Fuel crisis a few years ago.

Proved to have been an interesting thread, just goes to show, the achievable mileage with these cars without them drinking up the earths oil reserves!

Heh heh Ԛ… check again, maybe your 325i is in fact a 325d. I do 40-miles each way everyday (75% M1 @ 60-70mph and 25% A406 Ԛ—a early morning or late evening, ie. no traffic jams). My car is a 318is and I always get 39-40mpg Ԛ—a unless stuck in traffic. Not bad at all! I was thinking about an unstressed 325i but was scared about low 20Ôš's economy. I read somewhere that one had done 1 million miles in the US! Hmmm, anyway, 35mpg looks very tempting for a creamy 6-cylinder!

My fuel economy varies sooo much,
Got 86miles to Ԛ£10 (86.4p) the other day, which was london drving (5.30 morning so no traffic...) and motorway., not bad really.
Think my best was driving from cardiff to Aberystwyth,
Sunday night around 10pm....
Just gone passed m4 motorway and the needle is getting into the red, go past esso station, but leave it as I wanted shell....tell the girlfriend easily got another 40miles when needle is in red, that will get me to lampeter.
Driving round there is like driving in the middle of knowwhere, its where all the Drangons hang out and breath flames on any English around....
Got the Lampeter and its "bright lights" and the fuel light has been on for about 10miles, wasn't driving particularly carefully....DOH Garage is closed....hmmm ponder around for a bit thinking there must be one between lampeter and Aberystwyth its 29 miles.....
There weren't any open, so it was "keeping the econ meter at 50mpg"...
Suprisingly i managed to do it using aall the downhils and not braking at any corners (and thats difficult in mid wales.....)
Dunno what the mpg is on that.....

I did this on the way to the cinema once with the missus, thought i'll get some on the way back.
The film was longer than I thought and by the time i got back on the raod, the three garages I had passed on the way were now closed
I stopped a guy going past on his pushbike and asked wher the nearest open petrol station was and he informed me it was about 6 miles away
Anyway, the guy was a saint and got on his phone to see if he could rstle up any sober mates who could help out, unfortunatly, being a Saturday night they had all been on the pop.So he suggests phoning a taxi service and getting them to buy a can and petrol and delivering it here.
So he lends me his phone and i phone his regular taxi man (regular due to a little DD ban!) and he tells me he can't get anyone out to me
Cost me Ԛ£15 but i did tip the driver, should have been about ten.
As for the saint on the bike,I said to him I would put some cash behind the bar of his local when I was next passing as we were so grateful for his help.Trouble is,it was nearly a year before I went past again,so kept my word and went in the pub,and checked with the owner the guy still drank there, which he did,and I left some dollar behind the bar, must have been a suprise for him,bet he thought I wasn't going to having been such a long time.
I would love to have seen his reaction!

Let me know if you wanna flog your engine. My 320 cab always does about 270 miles to fifty quid!
I put Ԛ£51.00 in yesterday (ok it was Optimuck) and if I see 280 miles on that I will be well happy.
Best I had was 340 miles on a run (following a camper doing no more than 60.
Worst was 190 miles on BP crud when it wanted a service.
If I wanted better MPG I would have to go down market and get an E36.

Yeah could do but I like the whole old schoolness of the M20.
I have just bought a 2.7 ETA engine to drop in the cab. It just wouldn't be the same without the ticky ticky melody!

This thread prompted me to have a go at an economy run on my trip to York this weekend. Filled up to the brim with BP Ultimate and set off with good intentions of a gentle poodle up the A34. Didn't think I would have the patience to be lightfooted all the way and wasn't but still went for it. Managed to see 402 miles come up before the reserve light came on. Filled up again at 411 miles and it took 55.5 litres which on my calculator comes out at 33.62 mpg. I think I might have made 35mpg if I'd tried harder. Quite chuffed with that result, not bad for a 2.7 auto!
Pulled out of the petrol station on to the M1 and immediately had a tussle with an Alfa and a m/bike so I don't think this tankful's gone be that good!!
