lol, I am going the other way. I have had a 206 for 4.5 years now and I HATE IT!!!
Ok, it's pretty reliable, personally I have never had it not start nor continue to run. Only once way back when I got it the ignition went a bit nuts and it wouldn't accelerate, but still made it to a garage and it was fixed under warranty.
Other than that.... they are the WORST car I have ever had to work on, replacing dampers involved cutting the ARB links as they are Torx with nylon locknuts on them, which shear everytime you try to take them off, I'll also not mention the fact that the drivers side tends to tear CV boots. In addition to that, with 70k miles, I have had to replace the drivers wishbone, and I need a passengerside driveshaft as mine is out of balance.
Plus Points: reliable, economical (mine is 1.1 petrol, I hear the 1.4HDi is better) comfy enough to drive, you can get a suprising amount of stuff in them, 20k service intervals.
Bad Points: bast**d to work at, loads of recalls on them, mine had 5 I think, one of which was a brake clevis pin failure resulting in no brakes! Bloody ECU lights never go out, some sort of calibration issue with the O2 sensor, had it reset about 15 times, comes on after about 10miles, also it handles like a boat in a marsh...
Regarding how solid they are.. I was t-boned by a Honda Accord on a roundabout at about 20-30mph, and all it did was mangle the doorskin, interior was fine, as was sill and door lines. Pretty impressed at how solid it was.
I think you will regret changing, although the e30 might be a little unreliable, it is an old car.... my rule with cars are: Japanese or German (except VW, don't like them) Avoid French cars, they are all pretty crap. American cars... Vauxhall, Ford, etc...nuff said really..
just my 2c.. well more like 10c

Debbs, is it a case of your E30 needing replacment parts to get her up to scratch - if so then i'm pretty sure us 'users' on the Zone can help you out one way or another with parts, labour, advise etc - something to keep you on the Zone!!!!!!
Also heard the French only put heated rear screens in their cars to keep your hands warm when your pushing them- don't do it.
