Andrew
what about Koni vs Bilstein shocks?

koni wound up full im sure will give a stiff ride to reduce body roll? matched with hr springs?
Koni only adjust on rebound. and alot of people question their build/parts quality.

Andrew
correct me if im wrong there is a compression and then a rebound stroke?

koni does adj rebounds and auto compression?

bilsein are auto rebound and commpression?

so with the koni do you not have the advantage of setting the rebound where as the bilsteins are auto?

not tryin to argue or anything, i just would like to know the the differences before i shed roughly 300 on all four shocks,

over at r3v they highly recommend the IE stage 3 spring (which are eibach 55 front and 40 rear race springs) and koni all round, some do say bilsteins tho. i was thinking this setup for my sport along with eibach roll bars.

also how do eibach bars compare with the hartge ones? where are the hartges available from?

Koni only adjust on rebound, they are not AUTO in anyway at all! You have no control over the compression.

Bilsteins are AUTO in both directions!

Eibach springs/ARB are meant to be shit! i dont have any experience of them myself.

Look if you are looking for Ultimate, go for Sport Bilsteins/H&R (-35mm) Hartge ARBS and new bushes all round along with new E46 M3 top mounts on the rear.

The Bilsteins have the added advantage of being lighter than KONI and the fronts are Upside down. They are also half gas half oil.

I really cant say much more than that, this is been talked about to death.

The R3V guys are a bunch of jokers you want to see what they class as a Fast 325i, if i could host the vid i would show it!

Eibach springs/ARB are meant to be sh*t!
Andrew, what springs would you recommend to go with the bilstein sport dampers?

Also, those prices you mentioned above for the dampers, where did you get them?

Cheers :D

i dont really wanna go low to, bumps and crap dosent help with 9j all round to tho,

im not sure abuot the hr springs -35 still a bit to high, wanna go lower bit more,
worst comes to worst i just gonna grap the cup kit and roll the fenders to fit,
e30adam gonna be running this with his keskins i think, so will see how his goes,

otherwise its billis with hr race springs (where from?) or IE stage 3 springs.

damn does the cost add up big time..

ok then i'll need those -10mm bushes on the front strut then too, or just H&R cup it, as the ride is no worse than mine going from experiences in Karans chariot

All this talk of 1 suspension being better than the other  Hard to see where the technical bits stop and the open dissing starts
Im after a setup soon but the primary criteria is for it not to ride too low so i dont destroy my midbox around town cause thats all i seem to be using the car for nowerdays!

I had Konis all round, not very good in terms of quailty. If you turn them up the ride becomes stupidly hard. They leak after a while.

Worst thing is that when I had them on full they went soft after a while. I had to them turn them down to softest, bounce the car up and down, and then the full hard setting would go hard again. They sucked!

The Bilsteins were pure class if a little hard.

As demlot says, H&R springs + Billies are superb.

Hartge dont sell the ARBS anymore.

The cheapest option is H&R cup kit.

All this koni dissin' is making me change my mind. are they really that bad?

Don't think I can afford bilstien/h&r but the h&r kit seems a good option.... not to flog the dead horse but, what do we think peeps? (anybody had good koni exp.?) Karen, you liked the Konis on your 318i, and you got the h&r cup kit now?

You dont need the plates for the front, just buy the H&R -35 mm springs (which is what i may have to go for, as Karan puts it, my car is a little High'ish)

H&R cup kit is the best value for money out there + it handles and rides the best aswell. Its just a little on the low side at the back.

I cant see any competition for this sort of price.

The other option is Boge Mtec shocks (very good) + H&R springs.

Early days yet Mr E30 Hater  But the two things that stick in my mind about the car is how it scraps itself on speed bumps and how crashy the ride is. The route i usually use it for theres no chance to open it up : :?

None too sure!

But anything i get cant really be any lower than what i currently ride on, i mean its all well and good having a powerful sorted car but when things like multi story car parks and speed humps mean u have to slow RIGHT down and still catch your exhaust on....

I wonder if the crash bang whallop can be sorted out tho, lowering the tyre pressure did a bit to help in the 4cyl E30s i had before...
