My Sport would get 27-28mpg on an everyday drive with a bit of everything - town, country lanes, fast country lanes
. On a long motorway run (sat at 75ish) it would get 37mpg no worries.
I would brim the tank before I left and then again when I got back and worked it out from the miles Ive done/fuel used. Its the only real accurate way.

2.5 M50 isnt much better than the 2.5 M20 if any. The 2.8 M52 is quite a bit better than both, but thats probably because its state of de-tune. Throw the 2.5 bits on the 2.8 to get some proper power from it and it will most likely be just as bad.Dominitry wrote:Arent the M50's better on fuel than an M20 due to more valves?

Isnt there a way to calibrate this on the obc?I'm pretty sure the OBC and fuel gauge had an argument some time in the 90's and are no longer talking though. Sometimes the OBC says I have a range of 100 odd miles but the fuel guage says different!

the obc range is pretty dam good i take mine for gospel in my auto never run out yet. once u start on the 50miles and below it's pretty good.
plus when the light comes on u have 6 litres so 30-40 miles left. I've never known the light to ever not work on an E30 either

yes - but when i fill up the tank, its says i got 490+ miles remaining.
Its also quite depressing watchin the range go down almost every minute sometimes!!!
i remember calibrating/setting it once on the car. It involved waiting for the light to go on, then setting it to zero. It was much more accurate then!

When the light on the fuel gauge comes on, the OBC should read 3.5litres (although this isn't 100% as I've managed 60+ miles on that before now)...
But that is the "official" word, apparantly...
To get the amount f fuel left press the 1000 and the 1 button together with ignition on...
To adjust, you have to prise out the small round cover on the lower left next to the 1000 btn and adjust the small plastic grub screw on the circuit board...
Should have said that that gives (in my 325) a supposed range when full of approx 325+ miles....Seems about correct.

My fuel gauge works fine but never had the light go on. Do I dare chance running until the light comes on?Simon13 wrote:the obc range is pretty dam good i take mine for gospel in my auto never run out yet. once u start on the 50miles and below it's pretty good.
