It would be possible without unwrapping, but you still won't know if they're connected correctly. Also, it's bad practice (and potentially extremely confusing) to add extension wiring onto existing extension wiring.
Yes I know it’s bad... but I did it. Worked out which was the unlock and lock along with the 3 grounds and indicators. All wired up and working a treat!

Does anyone have a solution for the key blades not being correct? Can we get correct blades?
Check with Cotswolds as in the past I have bought a blank key with the torch for about £20 so either take it apart and use the blank or they may even sell the blanks separately. Worth asking,

That must be quite a bit in the past, another thing gone the way of E30 tax £55.28 last year with discount, hate to think what it is now

I fitted one of these over the weekend.
Took a while, as car was in the garage.
I found remnants of an old similar system.
Anyway, I tried not to use the scotchlocks, but was short on space so gave three a try. All three failed to make sufficient contact, so I took them out and did it properly. As others have advised, don’t use scotchlocks.

Use the original BMW keys with the Rightclick two button remote as a fob

Hi guys...just jumping in ....

I want to secure my car in the best way possible, lots of different opinions about the lack of need to buy an alarm.

In your opinions how does the right click system stack up against a Toad AI606 alarm system. Obviously price is massively different but in terms of the main objective of securing the car...which way would you lean.

All info grateful ...as need to fit alarm and ice so figuring out what to buy.

Thanks

Ozzy

First of all, the Rightclick device referred to in this thread is not an alarm or immobiliser. It's simply a remote device for unlocking and locking the car.
Secondly, you are not going to make an E30, other than those with a M5x engine, secure with any aftermarket immobiliser, unless its installed in a much more sophisticated way than any I have ever seen.
An alarm/immobiliser may deter casual thieves, and it may reduce your insurance, but it won't stop anyone who knows what they're doing from starting your car and driving it away.
Obviously, an alarm that notifies you remotely may help if you are close enough to intervene, and trackers are effective against the more non sophisticated crooks.

Agreed I’d say the only truly effective way of securing your car is with a good tracker. There’s not much you can do to prevent the theft by a pro, but at least you can get it back!

Unless it gets shipped straight off to some other country...😢

Some are, some aren't. There are DIY things that can be done with old mobile 'phones. Mechanical devices are the best way of stopping someone driving away an E30. Difficult to drive if the steering wheel is enclosed or restricted, or the pedals can't be operated.

Well I do have a wheel clamp on the front wheel...maybe just and a new remote keyless unit like the right click and some kill switches ...
Or spend 300 on the toad which has the above and maybe a little more...?

An effective immobiliser against drive away theft, is one that allows the car to start and run as normal for 30 - 60 seconds, and then cuts the engine. It'll take a brazen thief to sit in the middle of a main road trying to work out what has happened and how to restart it.

Ok fair enough...so really just a good immobiliser/kill switch and perhaps a GPS

sounds like a job for a Dremel. I would just thin down the thin rib each side a little and get it it slide in.
