My first car was a 5 door 1993 16v............. 1.0 micra.... in red
and that was Ԛ£1200 to insure nearly 7 years ago
As has been said get an old banger at first.... most fun i have ever had in a car (with my colthes on
) was in a 1991 metro 1.1 which cost me Ԛ£90 with 3 months test....... went all over in that thing and got upto allsorts (funnyest was using it as a gunship, water guns out the windows in summer.... parked in a ford to re-load
)

maxfield!!!!
All i have to say to you is if you really want a M3, you will be sensable and only buy a cheap car thats both cheap to run and insure, if you dont follow these simple rules you will not get your dream car.
simple!!!!!
I also think the polo route is the best for you.

Agreed! I've done it, spent 3 years driving a mk 4 escort, then an F plate 309, then moved onto an E30 316i, then to the sport, by which time I had 4 years NCB, and allowed me to get some decent insurance quotes, I'm now 26, and when I first bought the M3 was 25, and paying Ԛ£450 fully comp.
It's hard, but it's got to be done!

Sorry maxfield but its the only way your going to do it.
Ive had fast cars scince i was 21, but ive paid the price in insurance, and i would do it all again in a flash. but trust me the old fiesta and stuff i used to drve around in untill then was a night mare.
i was always changing cars, as i was never satisfied with what i had, that looking back was a silly move, as when i did get a fst car i looked back and thought .....bugger i could have spent all the money ive waisted on sorting out my new car.

hi
for starters ben you are a lucky fu**er i couldnt believe it
the other day when you said you were only 20. im 19 and
there is no way in hell i will have one in the next couple of years.
firstly though an m3 is relatively easy to buy (seeing as these
kids nowadays are spending Ԛ£8000 on new corsas etc....i know
what id rather have
) but the insurance in this country
is an absolute killer.
you see lamborghinis and ferraris for sale for Ԛ£40,000 for which
you could buy an e46 m3 brand new, even though for cruising round
town in the people would love to see a ferrari over a beemer but
then what people dont seem to take into consideration is the fact that
its easy to buy normally, but can you afford to run it and service
it when things go wrong.? and the m3 boys on here will tell you,
if the 4pot boys, or even the 6 pot come to think of it, have problems
with their car we can normally repair them at a relatively low cost.
as soon as you get into m3 territory if something goes wrong your looking at big money even for the simplest of things.
theres a lot to take into consideration
just start off with a 316i or 318i and then progress buddy. thats what i
did and then dropped in a 325i cos i didnt wanna get rid of my first
car because regardless of problems i still love it to pieces.
an m3 cab is my ultimate dream car but im gonna have to wait
til the girlfriend matures with age becomes my wife and then il pimp her
good luck though mate you got a while to go yet?
glad to see your in the car scene so early but dont go dont that
blasted corsa/saxo route get a 316

Maxfield, when you passed ur test make sure you do a pass plus test... Just consists of 120 mile motorway drive and you cant fail.... They just give you pointers at improving.. Some companies dont take the pass plus into account but other insurance companies will almost half your premium....Its always worth it...

Hes 15 so a while to go yet. The guy can drive well though, iv seen some vids of him driving his dads audi s4 and he gets the back out like a pro
Good advice about the pass plus though, its really easy to do and saves a lot on your first years insurance. As iv said to you before Maxfield, I would also advise a race car lisence before even thinking of an M3, gives you that extra bit of car control at speed.
