Theres Nothing in the manual about inadequate lock.Demlotcrew wrote:The only issue those may fail on is inadequate wheel turning angle (low turning circle).
Arms like that have a very limited market (despite their very good fabrication), certainly those who can afford such would quickly see their drawbacks and go with other available options.
Possibly the only application would be off-road.

any body know where you can get arms like those ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^HairyScreech wrote:That should pass as it has clearly been designed that way.
The MOT rule is intended to cover things like cutting and welding cast components which would clearly be an inappropriate mod.
Those are the SLR arms right?
For what it's worth they are pretty simple to make, done a few while I was working at the vintage car place years back.
You would want to go a bit heavier on the arms for a bmw (vehicle weight) and heavier again for regular road use, these were intended for sprint style use.
(bolts are obviously only for the picture, yes rod ends in bending they are 10x over rated to cope).
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

So your first one snapped, yet you still think you have the skills to carry on?
The car looks like a shit heap. Hopefully no one is injured when the next one fails

They will fail in this case, the material will be loosing its heat treat and suffering localised hardening. combine that with the stress raiser cause by the weld toe, the difficulty of getting penetration and stresses left from the weld cooling will only end one way eventually.
The ball joints from the E30 arms are available separately. with a 235 amp mig you will be able to fabricate a (not very pretty) tubular arm that wont break.

All the load is taken up by the outer ball joint, I would have tied the diagonal to the ring and not to the arm, although it will probably hold if you're only drifting.

A lick of paint on that car and it'll be sweet.

That will do pet.
What gauge tubing did you go for?
Thick gauge an a mild tube?
Any trouble getting penetration on the thick rings where the tubes join?
Why do I get the feeling the welded stock one was an alignment test piece?

Penetration is never an issue here, always use protection !
Tube is CDS 3mm wall, 25mmO.D and 45mmO.D (Drawn Seamless Precision Steel Tube TO DIN2391/C)
Rings are En8 Machined down by Byron.
En8 preheated to 100'c .
I would have liked to have Tig welded them, but was faster to mig up as they needed doing quickly.
You got it
was just something i could tack and still move around to get the wheel in the arch center, rather than too far back like many of the 5 stud converted e30's i seen yesterday at ace

By the way this started, I thought you were just another drift mong with a £100 eBay welder. Fair play to you, nice looking set of arms there
