So sanded it back and it's all good metal:

Popped the grill off and it all felt pretty good till I pulled off a blob of seam sealer which revealed this hole :(

The metal around it is all solid though so thinking sand as much as I/Frenchie can, then use some of that Bilt Hamber Deox Gell before etch priming it to stop any further rot? I can live with that small hole for now

when you do weld it that bronze stuff won't join so you have to edge it back

The deox gel is very good stuff. It would be what I use aswell as some decent etch primer.

You'll have fun welding the hole, you'll get spat at when you're close to that braising :)
