The only tyre better than a conti sport contact imo is a michelin pilot sport and only just.

Ive have had the conti's in 2's 3's, 5's 5P's and E46 M3 specific types on all manor of BMW's and rate them very highly!

I've also had Mich PS and PS2's on a few E46's are rate them.

But for 205/55/15 its a real problem! I managed to get a set of michelin pilot exaltos which are pretty good for mine but i think these are now discontinued in that size.

Proper concours E30's generally seem to have old period tyres like Goodyear NCT2's, Uniroyal's that E30's had when new.
what would be the more available new/now equivilent ?

i may go contis then reading your comments, miles isnt really an issue, its the polished rim set that wont be on the car on a daily basis, more a "nice occasion" sort of set, and i have a set for more all year round il be putting a daily tyre on, wet use isnt so much an issue as will only ever be driven in wet if i get caught out somewhere whilst out

although what are goodyears like compared with the conti/mitch ?

I assume you are going to use 205/55/15?

There is virtually no choice! Deffo not conti sport contacts or Michelin pilot sports of any type. :(

I've got Nokian Z line Tyres on my E92 330i Coupe. They're absolutely awesome - much better than the Bridgestones they replaced

I think they're made in Finland. If you look at tyre review people rave about them.

Not sure if they make a 205 55 15 though - I'll be getting some for my E30 next time if they do.

I assume the bridgestones were run flats? Are the Nokians?

Actually no - the runflats are on 19" wheels and are sitting in my garage.

There's too many speed humps where I live for those. The Bridgestones that used to be on the 18" alloys that are on it now were non run flat.

I am in the market for four 205/55 15's.

Just what is available at sensible money?

I have resorted to wearing out my stock of 14''tyres on the touring this summer, more due to over-spending on my bloody boat, currently fitting a new cabin roof..... :D

The 'pinas were 16's and are now gone. The 225/50/15's are for some 15x8 BBS RS's for the rear.

A bargain at £40 per corner. These normally retail for the best part of £100 each.

Strange. I put that size in and it came up with no choices found or something.

I have found the toyos all ready on their own site and think i've got no choice to settle for them.

The only cars i have found that use that size as OE are a Toyota MR2 and the front tyres of a Lamborghini countach.

Result! I've used the previous generations, Sportrac 2 and Sportrac 3, on E30s and E36s for the last 10-12 years and have always been impressed with them. Reasonably quiet, grippy and very good in the wet. I've had 30K out of my current Sportrac 3s. They are nearing the end now though. Got a 1000 mile roundtrip to Scotland on the horizon which will be their last journey before being replaced next year with the Sportrac 5s if they're still at that price. Winter Goodyears and Bottletops to get me through the colder months!
