I did, she laughed and said no. There is no need for them to be rude, and they say 'we can not tell you why we need to see your car until you get here.

have you newly aquired the car did you have the log book when you bought it or are you applying for a log book if you dont have the log book then you will be asked lots of questions ....you may even find that someone else has applied for a log book for the same car...one that can cause problems is speed cameras ...ie..someone gets a summons and says thats not my car or i wasnt there on that day.....with a view to shake off the fine ......it then can cause a report to be created that there may be 2 cars on the same number plates so they may want to look at yours to make sure you have the right one and not a ringer.also have you changed an engine do you know if the engine wasnt bent if you notified a engine change and the engine was from a nicked car it would show out

1) The DVLA Inspection would be in Swansea.
2) Ringers/ Copied cars would be a matter for the police, not The DVLA.

1) the DVLA can do the checks at any of the dvla local offices
2) the car may of been a write off in the past and before they issue a new V5 they need to do a vic check

the police train the dvla examiners and would only normally get involved unless you dont turn up to one of the "clinics" then expect a knock on the door and possibly the loss of your e30 for a while untill they are satisfied that its not nicked

Is that part of the SVA thingy ?
Also, the DVLA Train/Inform the police, as the DVLA are the aurthority(sp) regarding Vehicles in the UK, the police only enforce the DVLA rules/Policys (99% of which are government policy).
When you are up in court for a vehicle offence, 99% of the time, it will be a solicitor for the DVLA, not the police.

sva is the vosa test you put your veh through if its a import
dvla and all local offices have access to a computer data base that covers most of the eec so if you nick a car in the eec it will show out

Thanks guys, thats been helpful. The car has its log book etc. It probably isnt much as the car seems so honest, its mint, was completely standard, fully documented, and local garage say it has never been in much of a crash at all. I will phone them up and ask more! They are so secretive though, and i dont want to drive all that way when thye wont even tell me why!!
Thanks,
Paul
