Horse shoe gas struts and wrong parts
Moderator: martauto
I don't want rub salt in the wound but,Instead of buying new horseshoe struts from a BMW dealership for my E30 I used this company www.sgs-engineering.com to get them re-gassed and tested,I was very very impressed with the service and the price,ï¿a24.09 which includes carriage.I sent them off on Monday morning and I got them back today (wednesday). There was absolutely no sign of them having any work carried out on them other than a re-gas date.I highly recommend these guys. They also stock many new struts at a third of price of a dealership.

They might make/supply new ones.
Already spoken to them about these being made and got the following response:ah wrote:I don't want rub salt in the wound but,Instead of buying new horseshoe struts from a BMW dealership for my E30 I used this company www.sgs-engineering.com to get them re-gassed and tested,I was very very impressed with the service and the price,ï¿a24.09 which includes carriage.I sent them off on Monday morning and I got them back today (wednesday). There was absolutely no sign of them having any work carried out on them other than a re-gas date.I highly recommend these guys. They also stock many new struts at a third of price of a dealership.
I can get some similar ones for £40 shipped (for a pair) from a company within the UK but I'm waiting on some feedback from them. If the response is positive then I'll order some and report back.I have found a match on your part number. Unfortunately we are unable to replicate this particular item. It is in our quarantine section.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm unable to get mine regassed as the eyes are broken so I can't use them. I'd rather get OEM but I'm not spending £70 a piece for one!

I'd still rather have completely fresh new ones if I'm honest especially given how mine have failed. I guess someone repeatedly yanked the horse shoe open which has snapped the eyelets, begs the questions as to quite why it was yanked so much though.
I also dislike the listing for those items as it states 'uprated' which they won't be, just regassed. If they've regassed them to provide over 180Nm pressure then the seals will potentially be a lot weaker and could fail a lot quicker than some third party new items.
E: Or as below they are seat springs and not horseshoe springs.

Uprated, slight compression, washers needed? These are almost certainly just second hand seat struts, available from almost any worn E30 seat, and worth pennies.blingsta wrote:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E30-CONVE ... 23228d71c6

Seat struts work fine, but if they are in good condition, just one fitted should be enough to do the job.
