As promisedTom_Maverick wrote:There's a horrid black council E36 Baur saloon in the next road from me.. I'll take a snap in a bit.. Well worth a laugh

Definitely a 'marmite' conversion.. With the roof down it looks HORRENDOUS... Especially when compared to an actual E36 vert.. Which are actually very nice looking cars!

Baur conversion was available on all E30 two door saloons.
BMW's own convertable,for the UK market at least,was only available with M40 1.8i and M20 engines.(318i,320i and 325i)
Seem to remember that the US market got the M42 engine but not the M40?

Damn straight.. I'm not a baur fan anyway, e30 verts look awesome from the factory, without someone taking a coupe and replacing a few bits of the roof with some canvas.. On an E36 though it's just wrong.. With the roof down it is so ugly.. I'll try and catch a shot now the weather is nice!Rich320I wrote:tom that conversion above is so wrong, i think the number plate is well suited, it certainly is a huge pile of PAP

I don't think there's any doubt that the factory convertible is a far prettier car, but it's far from inconceivable that a Baur may be a better drive.
I like them. I think they'll become sought after in time and I quite fancy a late post convertible one like the one above.

If I had found a facelift Baur,I would have bought that instead of my Neon Green cabbie....cecotto479 wrote:I don't think there's any doubt that the factory convertible is a far prettier car, but it's far from inconceivable that a Baur may be a better drive.

Why?
Simple,my entire parts stash is based around facelift cars!
I'm not for changing now,my cabbie was built to my spec, and I am happy with the result.
