Did u take your foot off when the back went? opposite lock on the steering too?
I've never spun an E30 in 5 years of driving them! And i do drive mine hard sometimes!
I've never spun an E30 on the road either (came close plenty of times though). Funnily enough the only car I've spun on the road was front wheel drive - my Mazda 323 GT. It had fecked rear shocks and had a tendency to oversteer quite a lot. Was good practice for rear wheel drive rightness though.

So long as it isn't Cat A or B salvage they will probably be happy for you to retain the salvage as it is a pain in the arse for them.
Just don't appear too desperate otherwise they may take the pisch with their salvage valuation, should not be worth more than Ԛ£300-Ԛ£400 salvage mate.

Simon13: I can assure you they do just go, but not without cause!
I bet it was on that crap tarmac they are talking about on the news at the moment. Appraently loads of people of taking their councils to court over it. And winning... Its a new kind of asphalt that has no grip when it rains
but its cheap
Worth looking at... You may find other people came "unstuck" in the same place.
