Depends on what size engine you have in the cab.
B20 won't have a LSD, and the ratio will be about 4.2 smallcase.
B25 might have a LSD, and will have a range of diffs.
Why wont a 320i cabrio have one?
LSD's were an option on all E30's, even 316's!
May have been Barry, but how many 320 cab owners would have opter for that expensive option.
I'm going off what I've found on a couple of 320's, so far most with smallcase diffs, and not LSD's.
If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right! CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL
Yes Rav, its less likely for lesser models to have them but i would never rule it out. I've seen a few 320i's and 318i's with LSD although they were saloons.
Is the 'S' prefix a hard and fast rule? A mechanic who worked on my car told me it had a LSD, it snakes around when pushed, and displays other LSD characteristics.
Yes it should have S on the tag and before that casing resembled something that cam from the titanic, the casing would have had a white "S" painted on to of the casing.

The annoying thing is, it wan't a particularly expensive option.
Wouldn't know Brian, but if you look towards who was buying these cars back in the day, I dare say it would have been a 21 yr old who would be thrashing the nutts of it, it would have been "a Rep mobile", and the odd "Mature" driver.

It was the "young, upwardly mobile professionals" that bought these cars new!
In 1990 a slipper diff. was £396.
For comparison, the BMW alarm/immobiliser was £397, ABS: £690, Electric sun roof: £745 and 15" BBS wheels a staggering £1074!

...which causes another problem potential since the mech. who did the diff flanges for me filled it with oil designed for an LSD (since that's what the VIN indicated). Is it ok to drive or should I drain this stuff asap and replace it with something else?
If it's Castrol Hypoy LS will be fine but some of the miller oils or B17B are for motorosport use and will break down a lot lore quickly etc, etc.....so, if you are sure it's not an LSD, change the oil. If you are not sure it's not an LSD, leave the oil, until you are sure it's an LSD or not?..there is a man on here selling a 3.91 from a sport which is very good value//there is anonther guy selling one with worn paltes that migh be kicked by friction modifier. An LSD is a nice thing to have though.
