F***ing b****** piece of s***, etc etc. But they're fairly standard comments that I make about it all the time, so I won't get too upset about them.

The blokes from work say that to me as well. They are always trying to wind me up for spending thousands on a £600 car. But at the end of the day, one of them doesn't even drive!!

On the whole though i tend to get positive comments about it. And alot of my mates are now progressing onto bmws and can finally see what i've been trying to tell them for years!

i've lost count of the number of times people at work have asked why i didnt buy a rhd one

various others have asked what size engine it is and upon hearing "it's a 2.3" say "oh, it was a 323 then?" several have then gone on to tell me about their mate / dad / brother / bloke down the street who used to own one of those really fast 6 cylinder 325i s :D
cheers,

my boss keep asking why i'm "wasting money on that old unreliable money pit" i then pointed out that his VW fox depreciates about £1000 per year, costs £500 a year to service and has so far left him stranded 3 or 4 times over 2 years.
my E30 has left me stranded twice (water pump once and diff at santa pod once - hardly the cars fault i fitted a small case diff and a M30!) in 5 years, costs £50 a year in parts to service, increases in value by about £500 a year i reckon, is faster, more comfortable and on a run with hthe LPG is more economical!!!!! :P
i didn't get a reply

i do get a lot of 'nice motah mate, wot engin iz it?' type comments from lads passing my house while i'm tinkering which i take as a compliment.

i don't really care what other people think, it's a hobby, a passion, a means of transport and an investment all in one. and most importantly my kids think it's cool so it must be! :P

I get the usual old banger comments from a couple of lads at work, Dean kept wanting a race but his clio 172 was never on the road for long enough between breakdown's/electrical faults

He has a reliable car now, Civic type R, but after a passenger ride in the E30 he refuses to put the rice burner against it

I even like tinkering with it, although I'm the only one on the street who works on their own car and they all think I'm crackers (not helped by 'drifting' at every opportunity recently)

Tell me about it! Only good comments - even from friends who don't like BMWs. However, my youngest (and seriously disliked on account of her overbearing, sycophantic and opinionated tw@t of a husband who can't do wrong in her eyes) phew - sister, thinks it's a pile of junk. What the fook does she know let alone that pillock?

At Christmas she asked (egged-on by coont-features) if it was nearing death through rusting and they both sniggered. I told her that their 2 yr old Audi prolly had more rust than my 21 year old and booger me, I found tiny rust patches on their car.
:rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

They couldn't find any on mine
Mind you, they didn't notice a heaving rust bubble in the usual place below the tow hook on the rear valence. Did I point that out?
Did I fook - it will be gone before summer :snigger:

The positive remarks far outweigh the bads ones but both tend to be the same sort of things ie,

Good things tend to be along the lines of, "dont see many of them any more, I/my (insert person) used to have one of them years ago!" or "thats clean for its age!"

Bad ones tend to be "why do you drive an old car!" or "you look like a drug dealer in that!"

Had a couple of hodded scalies shout over to me at the traffic lights "Cool car man - what's it like on petrol?"

Didn't know whether to be offended or pleased.

Or another youth saying "Nice motor mate, just needs a full body kit and some better wheels"

Better wheels? - it's got a mint set of 15" BSS with caps FFS!!!

I lost count of the amount of times people would stand and nod in approval whilst looking at my shiny Henna Red original run E30 M3 as I reeled off the past endeavors of 'Smoking' Joe Winklehock and Steve Soper, expanding to incorporate the origins of their fantastic machines only to be rewarded with the immortal:

The girlfriend said she didn't want to be seen in my motor and doesn't ever want to drive it, she may have changed her mind since the e34 tourer turned up as the family bus. Work mates have commented that it should be replaced with the usual modern shite thats out there,

My ride might be more attractive to negative comments due to the 'out of the box' things I have done and for the ones I haven't. My interior is half missing, seats are fubar, rusty arches, bad paint etc etc This usually brings on the piss-taking amoung mates but not so much the general public, plenty of confused looks as there is no badges at all on the car.

One fine afternoon on the M25, coming home in the usual rush hour, ended up in front of a nice audi A4 3.2 coupe who wanted to park his wheels on my boot. I moved over so he could get all 3 meters forward and we ended up looking at each other, he mouthes something like "did ya misses help ya flip your skip over?" To which my misses says "fucking ave im!" I'm like, WTF? Misses is normally cool and collected, she a beautician FFS! Anyways, I look up spot a gap in the traffic and pointed at it, he gets the message loud and clear and drops a cog, smiling away as he does, I just planted it in 5th @80 and turbo starts screaming away, his face drops, we made the gap. Wasn't any room to play till we hit the A12, off the rdbt and GO GO GO! After a few pulls, he gives up and pulls alongside, asks the obvious Q" WTF is in it then?" "Deisel turbo mate" Well, I wasn't lieing was I?

I only get my car's slated by a neandothol at work, who thinks his green vectra sri "a" is the best thing on the road ever. I would not mind but it is not a good example at all and the gsi badge does not help. I ignore him most of the time but I have offered him a log book for log book race with the touring. Still waiting for an answer :teehee:

I suppose I can understand people looking at an old e30 and just thinking banger. But these are the kind of people who don't drive for fun or enjoy car's, A car is a car to get from a to b and that's it as long as the reg is as new as possible. Good luck to them and let them enjoy there cheese and biscuits as far as i'm concernd.
