Worth pointing out that without a heated front screen it can be fairly impractical leaving straight away in todays current climate. I think i'll be ok letting it warm up on petrol or lpg, and not crash into something because I can't see, and suffer a bit of extra engine wear!

Well, a quick look around on the net and the consensus seems to be that with modern engines it doesn't make much difference either way. 10-15 seconds to get the oil flowing and then you can drive off if you keep the revs low.

I'm still going to let mine clear the screen first though, and I don't believe doing this will damage the engine any more or less than any other cold start. I'll bet the total number of revolutions the engine has completed before warm is similar whether it does it by idling or by driving, except the driving method takes less time.

You'll fur the plugs up in he long run, by letting a car idle excesively.

it does say in the e30 owners handbook that at excpeptionally low tempretures allow the engine to run at fast idle for about half a minute to ensure that oil reaches all parts of the engine and do not allow the engine to warm up to operating temp at idle speed . Does any one know if the m3 screen will fit all e30s as there seams to be more places that sell m3 heated screens than std e30 ones
