no matter what you do to an E30, it's a very old design at the back

the same driver can go round corners faster in AWD, and if you are on the limit in whatever car, that's your 'real man or woman' point, (whatever that means)

yes it's 'easier' to go round corners in AWD, but there still comes a point where the physics of chassis/grip runs out, and the drivers skill comes into play

I think that was the point I made in the original thread... you can have fun at the limit in an E30 at speeds which WON'T kill you - in an AWD, that limit is so much higher that when it goes wrong it's going to hurt (as can be seen in my link at the top)

but the Impreza is still a drivers car.... it just happens to be an idiots car as well (actually after seeing that PINK E30 on Ebay, the E30 is proven to be an idiots car as well)

just because something is cheap and accessable, it doesn't mean it is no good
its just a personal thing... i was actually recently fortunate enought to dtive an evo... and yes it is very very quick in a sraight and not mucht could touch it in the twisties either... personally i found it very easy to drive whereas the e30 is more of a challenge. the evo would just eventually start scrubbing wide and u cold just bring it inline by lifting off then planting it again to neutral slide it round... this was within only a few miles of me driving the car... i dunno bout imprexas but i doubt they are much different

im rwd thru and thru......nothing else does it for me.. although having sat in an actual corolla grp a rally car (a proper factory one) on gravel id say i was gobsmackingly impressed.... as this is where 4wd really becomes fun and i could see rwd just being frustrating

all bout it being an enjoyable experience... these 4wd things are no doubt impressive but to me they are just another chav chariot..and i personally would not feel comfortable driving one around in fear that ppl would think im a right tosser/boy racer!!!

Sorry but scoobies aren't really quick cars. I've shown plenty of them up. Don't forget that they lose a lot of power through their 4WD transmission.

They are simply the next boyracer XR3i. I'd much rather have a stylish E30 any day of the week. I'm not saying that scoobies aren't good cars because they are fantastic, after all they are used to this day for the WRC.

A friend of mine had his car on the front cover Pbmw(Red E30 with black bonnet,E36 M3 conversion) and the csl could'nt get away from him. Unfortunatly they timed him at 150mph instead of what it can really do. After the photo shoot they had a race up the track, the driver of the csl said he went of the clock and my mate(Ross) in his e30 was up his arse!
He also raced a nissan 200sx, that had loads of money chucked at it so you know its gonna big BHP, on the way to North Weald and the nissan was doin 170mph and Ross gradually went passed. The nissan driver would'nt believe Ross when he said what was under the bonnet until he showed him, i bet he felt sick :puke:

does 4WD count too? A good comparison if it's allowed is the Saph Coss, 4wd vs 2wd, 2wd wins.

EDIT: By the way, that's according to stock!

Have you driven one of the later Evo's with the active diffs? They seem to be able to get oversteer exiting corners and are supposed to be fun and more like a RWD car than the average AWD car, they still aren't RWD though.

I have reached and passed the limit (by accident :) ) in my fathers Evo VI a couple of times and it was actually always oversteer, even exiting corners I have got oversteer. I actually haven't had understeer in his car, but my father says he gets a little bit when racing on the dirt sometimes and on very tight corners on the bitumen I am sure it would. His car doesn't have a front LSD either, apparently an LSD on the front helps a fair bit with understeer. On bitumen race tracks It understeers a little bit less than my E30 and I don't think the E30 understeers much. On the dirt the Evo is usually power slides everywhere, you can turn into a corner, it starts to slide, you get back on the power to full throttle (or very close), power slide through the whole corner and then if you stay on the power it will pull itself straight at the end of the corner and you go rather quickly down the straight or you can back off again and turn into another corner. Like you said it is robably easier than my E30 (although things happen quicker) but it is still fun to be in a full power slide :D .

I know what you mean about RWD though, I like it too and that is why I have an E30, but I also like a properly set up AWD car and it really just depends on how I feel at the time.

When you say scooby do you mean normal turbo impreza (WRX) or STI? The normal WRX is only average in performance car terms, probably like an RX8, maybe s2000 or something like that. Still quick but the STI and Evo's are another level above that. Although 140mph is probably aproaching an STIs top speed so I imagine it would be running out of acceleration. They are made as rally cars where they rarely ever go over 200km/h (about 124mph). Their purpose is to go as quickly as possible twisty roads with a loose, sometimes very rough, surface as quickly as possible. Their straightline speed is really on a consequence of that, it is probably actaully the least impressive thing about them, although I still stand by my previous comments about them being quicker than most E30's could be, especially if price is taken into consideration (at least prices here in Australia anyway).

Yeah, I think my father's gets more body roll than my E30. I don't notice it much from inside but I have pictures of both cars through the same corner and his seems to be leaning a bit more. It's strange with the suspension fairly stiff like they are, probably could use a bit stiffer ARB.

Like I said before though even if I owned a car like that I still like RWD and I would probably still have an E30 or something similar. Right now I am actaully looking into getting an E30 M3 here in Australia and it will cost me nearly what the Evo VI cost but I still want the M3.
