I think it'd be lighter than a Scooby.

I sat with a Scooby WRX in my old CRX, on a dual carriageway on the A10, in between roundabouts and between them, up to 120mph and back down again, for a few miles.

Got a wave after from him, he was trying but was he any good?

Who knows.

who knows

but the UK WRXs weigh 1385kgs whereas the 'classics' weigh 1235, both with the same engine, which is why I thought Karans car would be heavier than a 'Classic'

Subaru spoiled it, in the same way that BMW spoiled the 318iS going from E30 to E36

Cumon!

I breezed past this and breezed past that.......doesnt mean your car is quicker, as Dave said, it may seem like the other person is trying to cane it but most people cant drive for shit and make all sorts of errors.

I beat E30pilot who has the exact same car as me just because I was shit loads more aggressive with gear changes.......his car is exactly the same as mine in terms of acceleration.

A VR6 Corrado is one quick machine espcially when modified. A 2.7 with 210bhp will no way piss on a corrado, it might be about the same.

Also, when "breezing past" at 135mph, its most liley the other driver has lost his bottle and is not flooring the f*ck out of his car.

I know exactly how quick Karan's 2.7 is and no way would it blow away a Corrado driven in the same style.

And how it kept up with an E46 M3 I have no idea. My only guess is the bloke couldnt drive. I recently sat in an M3 and its proper warp speed when driven hard and properly.

Sorry for having a go but we need to understand that people driving other cars may not drive as hard/abuse their cars as much.

Another example is Dave's civic, its only that quick because Dave can get the most out of it.

There are E30's on here that are insanely quick, they are equiped with 2.7's and 2.8's and they are serioulsy serioulsy fast cars even though the BHP fugures may not suggest it.

Oh, and your all in for a surprise with Jimbobs car........very quick.

This is a man talking sense (for once  ).

In all seriousness, this is pretty damn true. Most people start to think about letting off about 100mph, because it's bad news if you get caught, you can normally tell if this happens though, because you start to gain quicker than you were.

I got caught once at 100mph+, another time and I've got a long ban coming up.

I'm glad you agree with me.

Oh, I got killed in my M5 by a VW Golf 1.8T last week..........why? Because I didnt feel safe driving that insanely fast on that particular stretch of the A406.

I bet he posted on the VW forum that he pasted an M5.

This is it, some people will take more risks and win a road 'race' but it doesn't mean their car is faster.

Next track day I do Sal, come along and take the M5 round!

Definatley dude but I think some driving lessons from yourself would go a long way (especially the drifting type!.....I can bring the shed for that).

Would be interesting to see how the m5 does round a track. 2nd Gear is just brilliant on that thing and unlike 3.8's I can actually push it quite hard without worrying about it blowing up.

ive been talking straight line the whole time.... theres only one way u can drive in a straight line... and thats flat out.... as for the imprezas.... they were old shape low 200 hp ones...one was a wagon.. these guys were waving and going for it.... nothing in it til 120 then i was slowly going past...breeze was the wrong word sorry.... as for the e46 m3 Sal....i never said i kept with it LOL it has 340hp...... i dont bullshit... u know me better than that,,,i think my 2.7 is slow hence the project back to the m3... from start to 110 he pulled 3 car lengths which is quite a lot and spoke to me after as we were both going to the bmw dealer.... he said he was flat... i just expected him to really pull away...

at the end of the day..... i can say that 2.7 is just not quick enough to mess with newer cars comfortably....as to be honest most cars i try it with blow me away....  this is aall only mway and dual carriageway stuff by the way.....

hope that helps clear some stuff up i said earlier up the thread....i realise i was a bit loose with my terminology LOL

Fair enough.

However, how do you know when someone changes up gears and how fast? One slow gear change can allow a much less powerful car to gain alot of ground.

Point is you know the powerband of your car very well, whats to say the person in the other does aswell? For all you know he may be changing up at 5500 rpm whereas to get max acceleration he needsto change up at say 6500rpm or 9000 rpm in the case of an S2000!

Ive raced an S2000 in my C2 and won hands down. Ive raced one in my M5 and I was only just beating him upto 80mph.........he knew how to drive it.

Also, to say your 2.7 is slow is wrong, its not slow at all. My C2 was'nt slow at all and had huge amounts of torque everywhere.

I had a little play with a 325iS the other day on the A40 going onto the M25. He came past me and I immediately changed lanes and followed closely. As we drew onto the slip road for the M25 we were only doing about 90 or so (I think!!) and he was in the lane I would normally belt round...I ended up going the other way towards the M4, so slowed down cos I dont know that route that well.

It was all very friendly and nothing aggresive....was I flooring it, of course not and I dont think the other guys was either, but the adrenalin was pumping through my veins all the same.

325 was G reg, think ending in URD or MRD, black

2.7s are great point to point and for corners cos of their torque bands, not so great when just pastering it in a sraight line cos of the lack of multivalve they feel slow at top end...great between 3 and 5.5k though
although this may just be cos i used ot have an iS

Youve only driven your own car, Ive seen dyno graphs of it aswell and it doesnt do much after 5500 rpm anyway which is surprising given the cam you have.

My Alpina pulled all the way to 6200rpm and my friends C2 with the same cam as yours just keep pulling and pulling all the way to 6750rpm.

Totally different car to drive than yours, it revs much better than an iS for sure! Boy does it rev!

Oh and try going in a car with a 288/288 cam........youll be jealous!

Actually, just go drive a healthy 325i and youll be surprised as to the way it revs and keeps pulling past 6000rpm. Some 325i's made peak linearly increasing power all the way to 6500rpm!

Damn, over here if u got a slightly modded lookin car, every second guy wants to race u. It gets a little annoying every second one is a Mk1 golf (they still make them here :? ). Yeah I mean I've taken the new Opel Astra Gsi, and the OPC Turbo.

Aswell as having run some E36 M3's... I gotta say they gave me a good hiding.. I would like to know what power my car is gonna be making, when I put my new head on, 288 cam, ported, gas flowed, and big cams.

On top of a 2.9lt... I wonder.

Another member Rowen, makes around 135kw otw, with his 2.7lt with 288 cam, and Gaslowed... so I wonder

Just sortin out an MOT now (failed on a tyre and 1 washer jet!) ran into a brick wall with the 6 branch so the garage is gonna fit it along with the LSD, unfortunately not in time for Lakeside :(

On topic tho, my favourite bait are Civic Type-R's :P

Over here is indeed South Africa... Although they only come in 1600 and 1400 now. They come with a nicely updated interior aswell.

I'm sure if u check www.vw.co.za u will find some pics or something....they aren't really my favorite cars...I actually hate them

1) how can you hate a car ? Balance man, balance
2) how can you hate the car that brought supercar-esq acceleration and handling to the masses?
3) how can you hate the car that will STILL run rings round most production cars made today?

My liitle beast has done quite a few 'faster' cars in it's time, even a turbo supra and a pug 205 1.9 which surprised me a bit.

But......all I can say is I have REALLY BIG BALLS and will only go full throttle on roads I know, no point getting caught is there?!?

Best race was with a e46 m3 coming back from a meet, we must have been 100+ for 30 miles and then 130+ for the last few before we turned off. Wasn't a RACE as such more how fast can you criuse!!

Gonna be looking for a new league of prey soon.....just not sure what will be able to keep up

When my 325 touring was still running I used to find other estate cars acting silly and trying to get past me on the A34 just for the sake of trying (speed up, pull in, slow down).

Wait for traffic infront to clear - Right foot on floor bye bye other estate car... It was kind of funny.
