Theres deffo more power to be gained, MS and possibly head work should add 10-20bhp+

This is a quality 2.7. The engine is has the correct compression, the correct pistons and the right camshaft.

Then you have all of the best bolt on mods available inc the BTB2 Manifold and BBTB.

Some standalone management will probably give it a little more power and superb throttle response.

btw, the mph is actually km/h.

definitely quality, nice work Ant :) I think it makes peak power in just the right place too, must be a blast to drive

I'm playing the waiting game with my forged piston order, should get them in a couple of weeks and then it'll be all systems go for 2.9l of fun

in my block i used the early 525e 1981 domed pistons giving 11:1 comp ratio, 1985 525e onwards were the concaved pistons the ones you have in your car from the 325, which is the same as the 525e .back in the early days when i first built it in 1991 a company called stannard motors were the first to bring out the modified 2.7... on the streets besides alpina...still nice thou... good luck have fun !!

Second Dyno run, this time at Circuit Motors, Castle Combe.
Masive thanks to Paul (Sheps) for putting on a good day, impressive set up there with the new Dyno.

Very pleased with the result, over 220bhp on two different dynos, this one was spot on Ant's target power (225bhp on the second run) for this engine and is more than i was hoping for.
Paul said the fueling was spot on and what he would have been aiming for if he re-maped it so that means Ants chip was right on the money.
Low end torque is average but this build was designed with fast road and track use in mind so low end torque was never an issue.
The first test on the track at Castle Combe on saturday and the car performed very well, pissed all over a fair few cars and was all over a sapphire Cosworth till i had a spin winkeye

Big up Ant at A Tech once again, a fine job sir!

A well sorted package indeed.

Oz already had the best manifold etc for the job, all I did was make it all work together as one, job done .

Should he wish to move onwards, maybe we'll do some headwork ? but given the costs involved with that, I'd like to see a quantifiable increase over whet we have now.

Me, we'll I'd put MsnS- Wasted on there before doing anything else, but I'll not be twisting anyones arm to go down that route.

as for the 2.8, watch this space......

Go Oz - don't spin though you nutter!

The megasquirt on the N/A engine I drove at yours was so cool Ant. And that was a standard 325i. The MS just seemed to give the car so much life that the standard cam felt really tame. It felt like it just wanted to rev much more. Considering Oz has a spikey cam in already I think it would megasquirt really well and the extra percentage of power to be released will be interesting.

Strange that there isn't more tuning done. Cams, standalone ecus, maf conversions - expensive in some cases but engine conversions aren't cheap either and everyone seems to say it cost more than they expected with more hassle than they'd wanted.

little update on this thread......

following the loss of ODE, the engine and running gear will be taking up a new place of residence in a facelift 2 door shell.

not a planned swop, but needs must, upside is the engine will gain the later motronic setup along the way which will open up further possibilties for tweaking
