One other thing to consider, was the heel pad always grey?

I'm assuming that they can came them in other colours but will that affect the cost ?

Your poll is asking a question, but doesn't give the option for "no"

I assume they just squeeze different silicone or whatever in. They can match to sample fabric or Pantone ref. Another decision to make - grey heel pad on a beige carpet would look crap - IF that was OEM.

Now I need an actual mat (Polsta!) to get one of our CAD guys to replicate the pad. That file plus the actual mat itself will be sent to the plastics place - they will then give a more accurate estimate and can tell me exactly what the heel pad material is.

I sent them the above pic - they seemed totally cool with the task. The mould includes tweaking so its just right - and I would be pretty anal about it.

I'm in for 2 sets Indigo. Vote up - its not binding. :D

Its not a poll, I'm just using the poll mechanism - as I said if you read the post. Now is not the time for nonsense. Stay away for a bit.

That to me reads as a question, does it not? And by the way it's "a Replica", not "an replica"

Vote up lads - found another avenue that may be cheaper still.

Though the heel pad only adds £15 to each set. You can always order without.

I am.

I seem to remember OEM Matz being the number 1 most sought after NLA item.

As an FYI.

If we only get 10 orders = £200 per set.

50 = £96 per set.

Assuming you're not being sarcastic.

When the time comes, the cost will be divided amongst how many firm orders we have.

So the more the cheaper.

So could be £80. Could be £200.

I'm going on the assumption that we could get 50-100 orders.

So £80-95.

The cost will be the amount where Rach doesn't have to pay for his set.

Give it 24 hours. I think we can get 50.

As I said - we can sell the excess heel pads to other Homos around the globe to offset our costs. winkeye

100 heelpads. 80 Anthracite / 20 Indigo.

Are there any beige losers here?

Where is th no Vote? I would be simply amazed if you get 50 people on here? Most can't afford remoulds let alone Nankang? 80 quid for a bit of carpet, I would want it to fly for that!

Jesus I don't know why I bother.

If you're not into it then just don't comment - there is no NO vote because I'm not interested in people who don't want them!

How can people so effin' stupid! Read the thread - I'm using the polling system to gather numbers - which is better than the silly re-quoted list method.

There are 6 on the zone plus 2 outside I know.

It only takes 20 orders to get it to £140ish - which is what I'd have thought genuine ones from BMW would go for IF they were not NLA. £140 for a perfect colour matched, period lock pinned, yarn bound with perfect heelpad in the colour of your choice is NOTHING.

There's got to be 20+ zoners on here with nice E30s who want in.

And at least another 50 in the USA.

I'll take a set, but it has to be £80 as per your poll. I'm only doing this to help you and the zone. I don't even need them.

Make sure the edging isn't in the faux leather shite finish you originally suggested!

What's the reverse side going to be like ?

IF , they looked and felt exact like oem with heel pad and edging and exact quality carpet , £80 is a good price , used sets fetch 50+ and a top top condition used but like new set would go for a ton these days maybe

Wonder how much Bmw actually would charge if they re made them ?

I'd pay 80 for a decent black set

Placing a 30-minute lock on this thread to let things cool down. Offensive comments removed, and BOTH parties should consider themselves warned. Behave.

EDIT: Unlocked

You're a fool if you think this got out of hand because of carpet. Think before you wade in with stupid observations.

I could order ten more and flog t'Bay to lower the overall cost.

Potential price of of £130.

I'll only go ahead with this if the quality and accuracy is on point. And as we know, my taste and attention to detail is of the highest standard.

Which is absurd really as I'm not having a heel pad on mine.

I hate to say it but i'd be up for a set in black. I'm down with the plastic heel pad as i'm a grubby git.

I need an engine first, but........finishing touches as they say.

Needs to be well under that sort of amount and find someone cheaper to do the heel pad, if the heel pad/these mats can be done and decent , then they would sell regular in the long term and on eBay etc a steady trickle of sales forever , you should just invest the money yourself to get the heel pad and bang them out at £60 a set and look at the long term

getting someone to replicate that heel pad is not going to be easy for 2 reasons

1, they need to make a mould and thats not cheap

It will be very easy. Its only cost that holds things back. First of all, I have already found a mould maker and have a conservative estimate - read the posts. It could get lower. Technology has changed the game now. This is much easier than it used to be. Rule number 1 - don't listen to any negatrons.

I'm not bothered by copyright. The only thing BMW could hassle me for is the logo usage. Theres ways around that. No distributor - no need for such small runs.

@Polsta - I had thought about funding it myself but I don't see it as a money maker at all - its a fun project and a challenge. Disagree on price - £100 is still good value, in line with BMWs current stuff. Much more than that will be a tough sell.

I'm also looking into fast ratio rack and pinion sets that go straight into an E30 rack - direct bolt on. Working with an CNC genius who's done stuff for my bikes. Thats another story. winkeye

The heal pad is what makes it worth while. Theres no other option then to buy a used set.
