Preparing for the summer...

MOT and Insp I for the 323i at dealership today and back home before it rained - woohoo.

To get the 323 out meant 4 car other moves before I can get it out of the garage and the same putting it back. Deep joy.

Quite presentable for a 1982 crock, I suppose!
How come it's rolling on steelies, then - winter tyres?

Yep - the car sits on them all winter and for the service/MOT. I'll only fit the alloys when she goes to a show.Speedtouch wrote:Quite presentable for a 1982 crock, I suppose! How come it's rolling on steelies, then - winter tyres?
The M&S tyres on the steelies were bought back in 1988 when it was my only car and used all weathers. I was living in Inverness at that time so these were a reality.

Awesome! Have you got a build thread for that?hennabm wrote:Yep - the car sits on them all winter and for the service/MOT. I'll only fit the alloys when she goes to a show.Speedtouch wrote:Quite presentable for a 1982 crock, I suppose! How come it's rolling on steelies, then - winter tyres?

Hi Mitchen
No build thread as most work that has been done was done in the early 1990s, long before any zone existed!
Apart from routine maintenance there is little to do to it. last year I had to fit a new tank sender and fuel gauge but that was it apart from an oil service. Mind you it has only done 98 miles since last year.
That is because every time I wanted to take it out last year it p***d it down, keeping it well and truly locked up in the garage.
Hopefully this year the weather will be kinder to me.

Brilliant.. Would love to hear more about this cars story. You should do a thread in the members section, with some photos. Obviously been cherished for 20 odd years! Well done matey.hennabm wrote:Hi Mitchen

Replaced the oil temp sender for my VDO gauges for what should be the right one.
Pulled out the clocks, replaced the 2 main illumination bulbs and gave the glass a good polish before refitting them. Much better. a˜Ž

Having been running fine the previous day I went to start my car a couple of days ago to find it struggling and misfiring. Going through the usual checks I came across this sorry looking dizzy cap. No idea how it could have happened and with such sudden affect!

So needless to say this was replaced today, along with a new battery and full service including all the fluids and valve clearances!

It's the ones that Ben posted although I needed mine quick so got them from my local ECP. I priced them up at the desk and then I went outside, ordered the parts online at a cheaper price plus 5% discount code and waited 30mins in the greasy spoon next door lol. Worked out a couple quid more than Carpartsforless but I couldn't wait for delivery and I had them bought and fitted within a couple hours.

Sometimes a few extra quid to get the job done is well worth it!!
The ones I've used are actually E30 M3 eccentrics from BMW that I've had in a box for a while.Jookeone wrote:James,
Where are you getting your M3 eccentric bushes? Is dealer the only option, I can't find any on ECP, GSF or CP4L!
Cheers,
Jack
These are next ones I'm buying for my other E30...

I finally made some time to put in the interior I bought for my cab. While I was doing this, the engine was running so that it could get to temp, which it did and the gauge stayed in the correct position. Regrettably, coolant then started peeing out. There will be a pic in the tech section asking what it might be.
Mot will be sorted shortly, so I'll get the work done then.
