cheers, had enough requests for work from numerous places thats for sure! However, its only for my own hobby/business and doing it for other people it wouldnt pay as well as I would need it to.. :?

With respect the paint, its single pack basecoat and clearcoat. You really shouldnt use 2 pack unless you have the appropriate breathing gear and facilities to spray - even what I am doing is slightly questionable both from my own health and for the surrounding environment so I wont be doing it again until I have built my (fully sealead) garage. :(

It does look awesome...

Do you have any ary shots of it all finished? Get it drunk and get it to pose....

I've gone and put myself in the same boat! Going to have to give my everyday car a going over like yours now i've started picking at the crusty bits.

Was considering 2 pack paint and a little bit of shallow breathing  . With the ammount of syanide i already pump into my system by smoking rolies, a bit more (probably) wont kill me.

minor update -

The whole car has been polished now (well, the first hit) and the doors have been flatted back for repaint (which is a right arse, I am gutted this has to be done again).

In the meantime I thought I would put it in for an MOT to see how it was, told the tester if he said it needed welding I was going to drive it off a cliff.... :D anyway, managed to get 2 pages of fails and a page of advisory which is nice. Fortunately they were mostly electrical related which has now been sorted and the rear axle bushes which are getting done tomorrow.

THis weekend the missus is away with the kids so hopefully I will get the doors painted and by Sunday night I am hoping to have some pretty final pics for you all....

Shame about the mot. I gather you were expecting it to fail?
Cant wait to see the final pics! 8)
It will look like mine with less stone chips :D

I'm I right in recalling that you said you are selling it when its finished?

yer, I knew it would fail - it was just a question of how much! To be honest they were pretty good, the car hadnt moved in 9 months, so I guess I dont need to tell you how ratty the discs were.... but they passed the efficiency test so they let it go.

It most certainly will be up for sale once its done - thats what I do; a bit of renovation and then sell on. THis one will be a real heartbreaker to sell though.... :( Dont expect anywhere near what it owes me but Ive learnt loads.

lol, not good enough to be let loose on others cars yet Dave.. as you know, photos can be quite flattering - there are a few defects in it that given another oppurtunity I would try and avoid!! It still looks quite nice though!! :D

I hide all sorts of defects with a carefully taken photo, I find a range of about 2 miles tends to hide most things on my car :D

Don't forget that you (and me to an extent) have a higher standard than average joe, To most it would be mint. I'm certainly impressed with the turnaround on this car.

ok, today was really make or break day. The missus has nicknamed this the 'divorce car' and she has gone away for the weekend with the kids to allow me time to finish it. And when she gets back on Sunday, thats pretty much it - I cant do any more major work on it and will need to sell it, whether its finished or not.

The main problem was the doors, I needed to respray them as 2 times before they had reacted. This time I sealed the affected areas with primer and flatted back in the hope this would sort it.

Was out at 9 this morning, starting with this..

Image

Off with the doors and into the shed with them. In between coats I did the shadowline trim..

Image

Had a problem with one of the doors but managed to recover it, also got the mirrors and fuel flap done so that is all the painting done now :D :D :D

In between the many coats of paint on various bits I set about prepping the rest of the car.. went over the whole thing with my rotary (again) and Menzerna 106FF, then Meguairs #7 Show car glaze, then Collinite 915 to finish off - not usually a fan of wax on metallic but it looks ok I think? Tyres dressed with Megs Endurance Gel, wheels clayed with Sonus green and plastics done with AG Bumper Care. (note I obviously havent done the doors yet!!)

So all thats left is to flat back and finish off the doors, fit some random peices of trim and tomorrow I am going to have a go at the interior with my George wet and dry vac...

Watch this space!

Pad wrote:cheers all, I am pretty pleased all told. I didnt elaborate yesterday as I was pretty knackered but I tried to get the doors done but the paint started doing some funny stuff so I didnt bother clearing them. I am less bothered about this, as I have done all the jambs properly, I can take my time to rub down the doors on the car and repaint while they are hung.

I dreamt last night that the paint all flaked off, I am happy to report it was all still there this morning. I am not for one minute claiming a top class finish, but all things considered it looks pretty fine - better that I could have hoped really. Once I have done the kit and the doors, I will flat the whole car back in 3000 grit and then polish up with my rotary.. it will never be concours but should make someone a fine looking daily driver. :D

You dreamt that cos you were stoned off ya swede lol.fair play to ya mate and massive respect as i cant even use a welder and ma touring needa little welding and new paint.......
You hav shown me with this thread that there is no if's or but's but how's instead you have made me more determined to sort mine out once and for all ..chaeers for the boost

Andy

For those that asked, I used basic 1K basecoat and lacquer, using solvent thinners - provided the use is infrequent I am pretty sure I am ok with carbon filters in my mask, its only if you are using isocyanate 2K hardeners that airfed mask is necessary - if it gets on your lungs it never leaves apparently...

Thanks again for all the kind comments, it does make it worthwhile!
