Only catch is they have to do more miles than you, but if you have a pair of legs, and a bicycle, it's hardly a hassle being without a car for a couple of days a week.
Yeah but if i was under my dads name with a 1.2 it would be cheaper than a 1.6.

My dad is bound to do more miles than me a year altho saying that ill always want to be driving. but dont mind riding my bike here and there

Get NCB for being named driver by some insurers now and it was on radio news a month back that insurance is to expensive for young people to get own insurance and almost everyone under 21 is on parents insurance. How do they work out who has been driving the car for what miles?, I guess if its a big claim they go and interveiw the parents workmates and neighboors and ask what car they drive most of the time? Just intrested cos my brother is insured like this on his sport and my mum hardly ever drives it.

I was on my parents for the first year, whilst I was learning to drive since then i've been on my own, currently 19, nearly 20.

I did pass plus which counts as a years no claims bonus for the first year, which helped A LOT. Now insuring an audi 100 s4(230bhp), group 16 TpFT for about £650. 230bhp with 1 years no claims. (you loose the pass plus's no claims after the firt year)

NOT bad in my book.

It is possible to get round a few stumbling blocks, best thing you can do is not get any points or crash in the first couple of years, and insurers will realise that you may not be a bad driver after all. They did me a favour, can't see why they wouldn't with you(max)

The companies that give NCB for named drivers appear to charge as if the named driver were a main driver. Or close enough anyway.

There's no way of knowing who drives the car, but the "ask the neighbours" technique is apparently commonplace.

This doesn't really work though as my Dad only takes the car twice a week for a commute, so although he does more miles, I make the most journeys as all of mine are around town.

You just have to tread carefully really - being insured under somebody else means you should be intending to only use the car "occasionally", though the official line is that the policyholder must do the most miles.

Insurance companies will try anything though as most people know :-x

My e30 is my second BMW. Had it just over 3 years now. They reckon the average time a person keeps a car is 2.5 to 3 years. Can't see me selling mine!! Maybe putting a bigger engine in it but not selling it!!!
What, 2.5 to 3 years!!!??? I used to change my cars every 6 months, but I've had me E30 for 1.5 years now and no plans to leave her - it must be love! :D
That sort of love with a car will get you arrested!!

19!

Oh, ok 31!

My 335i is going to replace my Mazda RX7 twin turbo (I regularly get the MPG into single figures and it makes a boring noise!).

The E30 is the 18th car I've owned (my 11th rear wheel drive - never going back to fwd!) and my second BMW after a sheddy E28 528i (about 6 years ago) which was great fun!

Bring on those wet roundabouts!

Looks like I am an oldie at 56,had an e21 followed by 6 years with an e28. Sold that to part fund a classic Daimler(now for sale)Found that modern cars were too wide for my wife to park(do not go there!!)so I bought her an e30 316 Touring.Liked it myself so I found a cheap 320 with engine problems on ebay and have stuck a 2.7 in.I am now back driving the 316 cos I can not get the wife out of mine!!You are as young as the car you drive....
