Stolen E30

As Spadge said use a disc lock.Dont use the bars as they can be used to assist the theft rather than prevent.SPADGE wrote:Great news mate!
Get yourself one of those disklok things on there asap and hopefully this won't happen again.
Stay lucky
Jules..
Glad you got your car back mate, would make me sick to my stomach to not find my car where I left it!
Would the smaller Disklok fit a Tech 2 wheel? I believe they would, but just wanted confirmation.
Also, the zone should do A stickied thread on E30 security, although I know its down to us and how we keep our cars safe, but security measures that act as a deterrent to the obvious E30 faults perhaps?
S.K.

Now that would be a good idea! Although as soon as it's created that will ideal information on how to steal cars too.SK360 wrote: Also, the zone should do A stickied thread on E30 security, although I know its down to us and how we keep our cars safe, but security measures that act as a deterrent to the obvious E30 faults perhaps?

The disklok thing obviously if it really does deter is a good one to mention.

Why not attack the wiring and fit a second ignition switch? It means running some thick battery cable, but if you can hide a switch under the dash somewhere that will simply cut the power from the battery to the starter, then no bar-steward can hotwire it, scewdriver the ignition barrel or similar. It hurts the originality of the car, but they fool 90% of the tw*ts that steal cars.
Or Brian Moooooore's method. Have a switch that shorts the fuel pump live to earth.
This pops the fuse on the fuel pump if they don't turn it off, and the car won't start until the fuse is changed.
(Just make sure you carry a supply of fuses...

Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

Speedtouch,
So happy to hear the great news; my stomach turned over when i heard some one had stolen an E30; but to get it back is superb!
I dont mean to be rude; but do you have any idea why your alarm wasnt effective; the reason i ask is that could be the same case for me
i have an alarm installed too; but if yours got niocked so could anyone elses!

Quite a few car alarms tend to go off at night around this area, so I suppose most tend to be ignored. Mine was parked some distance from where I live, so I didn't hear anything.
Using a 'Knojoy' steering wheel bar for the time being, but a Disclok sounds good though as Toby says, they are somewhat cumbersome and bulky.
I'll be looking into fitting a hidden switch somewhere...
PS. Rikster, thanks for the springs dude, they were well worth the wait, besides at the moment, it's too damn hot to even think about fitting them!
Cheers for the concern guys,

thats good dude, on the theft part when i leave my car in a dodgy area over night (anywhere other than my house lol)
because i got no alarm i tend to take the ignition lead off the coil and balance it on with the rubber boot hiding it
so it looks attached it even gets me in the morning
thinking my cars broke until i remember lol

i used to take the rotor arm out of the dizzy on my scirocco and stick it in my pocket whenever i left it anywhere away from the house or work.
not very useful on e30s tho as its not a five second job to take out and put back.
but yeah the disklocs are baulky for a reason. any car thief will see it a mile off, and without a half hour with an angle grinder hes got no chance, and he knows it so moves on to the next car............

Top tip there Rik, might try that!
Another is to remove the fuel pump relay or easier still, the fuse to it and take it with you.

Or do what I did many years ago and buy an Austin Mini.
It got stolen but the points closed up and so came to halt about half a mile away!

i used to have a fuel shut off valve on my MK2 RS2000. it would oonly go as far as the fuel in the carbs would take it then cut out, usually when i'd just pulled out onto a main road or roundabout!
