What's the fuss about? They weren't slagging the cars off, they were actually enjoying driving them and they all looked great when they were on the track. Also, they didn't pretend that they were good examples and even got quotes to fix them up which underlines the fact that they were dogs.

You know the interesting thing? The money to make them nice again. I reckon it was about spot on. Big lesson here for those who think they can buy a fair convertble (which Mays I reckon was) and retore it to very nice on a shoestring.
I did the update on the current costs on my car (which from what I saw of mays car resembled mine condition / originality wise when I bought it) and with buying the car it owes me a little over £8k. So taking in what I paid and what he paid, about £5500 sees a good car again.
I've been waiting for all the M20 haterz cashing in on clarksons head issues.

I think the point, if any, that will stick in the minds of the great unwashed is that if you fancy a "classic" four seater convertible at about the £2000 mark, there's only one choice.

In my humble opinion, Top Gear is running out of steam and this evening's show was not a classic; it was nice to see they all chose E30s ”“ what else - and the treatment was largely benign. My first thought was this: did any zoners wives recognise their car and question the bodily fluids revealed. Yeugh.

What a rubbish test..why not give them a general service then drive to such as germany/europe and back and see how many issues they had? not everybody has 50-100,00 to spend on cars like those 2 clowns clarkson and hammond!

Spot on. I did my homework 7 years ago and came to the same conclusion. Havn't regretted it so far...........apart from the money I've ploughed into it!cecotto479 wrote:I think the point, if any, that will stick in the minds of the great unwashed is that if you fancy a "classic" four seater convertible at about the £2000 mark, there's only one choice.

I think everyone should chillout.
I'm not a fan of cabs so couldn't really care but all three did the e30 proud in the fun factor on track and there's no doubting they all sounded lovely.

Top Gear .... or should it be Bottom Gear, unfortunately they are loosing it, forget about the E30 stuff, the programme is past it's best, it's entertainment.or supposed to be, I think that was the worst one ever!! same jokes re-packaged nothing new. I sniff the end of Top Gear coming. There is no new stuff...

I was quite looking forwards to that episode. It was a bit of a letdown with regard to the BMW E30 325i. The McLaren looks like an amazing engineered car. The Zonda R sounded really amazing and stopped really quick along with the handling it really was quite close to flat in the corners.

How many times is he going to crack the 'on top of Cameron Diaz' gag??
Yeah on a possitive note that zonda was just astonishing, flat aint the word
. That was awsome!
On the e30 bit, I agree that it was a rather shite test tbh, and that it should have been give them a service and drive them long distance, with a bit of track after ect ect. Good consumer advise ect and excellent viewing at the same time. Could have been soo much better I think

Very good show in my opinion, let's not forget,it's purely for entertainment,it wasn't ever supposed to be a "proper" buying guide of convertables for under 2 grand. It was just a simple car related feature and they happened to choose E30's as the cars to use, from my point of of view a fine choice.
I think it would have been dull as dishwater had it been a proper buying guide,we all (well most) know what we need to know already, why would we need to listen to it?
I'd much rather watch some E30's get ragged up and ripped apart!
Good on Top Gear for using E30's

If you fancy a RWD 4 seater convertible at about the 2k mark.... In my small brain, all the other options for that coin are all fwd.cecotto479 wrote:I think the point, if any, that will stick in the minds of the great unwashed is that if you fancy a "classic" four seater convertible at about the £2000 mark, there's only one choice.

If you're just using RWD and £2000 as the criteria, the E36 is the one to have. It's currently firmly "banger" as opposed to "classic", though.
To be fair, I don't think they stipulated RWD or classic. It's good auto suggestion for the masses though nonetheless.

How different it would have been to have quentin talking us through the pitfalls of using a non genuine timing beltJesus325iTouring wrote:Very good show in my opinion, let's not forget,it's purely for entertainment,it wasn't ever supposed to be a "proper" buying guide of convertables for under 2 grand. quite right but how much would you have lost on a new e46 if you had bought 7 years agoB7 wrote:Spot on. I did my homework 7 years ago and came to the same conclusion. looked like the guys from Munich legends that did the Autopsy ?
Hammonds calypso cab lost, that was a surprise .. you would think a slammed/cut springs turd with Azevs and a badly fitted hood from Brum complete with shite and pubic hairs would have won ?
I thought it was entertaining, sadly Clarkson didn't have an E30 Barbecue as I had hoped !
what was their budget/purchase price?

what BMW E46 did you get?kieran325 wrote:I bought my E46 new 7 yrs ago, cost me 25k and now it's worth 7/8k
I just watched this all the way through till the VERY end when the car was sold. Enjoyed it far more than any of the Top Gear episodes this season apart from maybe when they went to the Middle East which was not far off.
