I just can't believe how nice of a guy Steve seemed, and then he did something like this.
I know when I got my car back it was clear that it had been used, and uncared for.
Anna some pictures would be great, it's a shame as when I last saw the car in the primer stages it all looked good, but that said it was in a workshop with no daylight in.
Rob, so was the Trans Am Steve's car then? That looked good.

He left our unit, the day before the rent was due in the middle of the night taking his stuff, Robs car, and loads of our gear too! We got most of our gear back in the end though.
The firebird is his, he sprayed that at our unit but if you see it in the daylight you can see all the prep marks clearly.

Rob, Very sorry to hear this mate. Just read all this thread, What an absolute ar$ewipe. Not to much to say to make you feel any better mate but keep your head up... Nice to read all your fellow zoners comments and offers of help / assistance. Wish you all the best mate...

WTF?!!! It just gets worse and worse!weknowtruth wrote:Well, good news is weve found the joins in the rear panel again!! Although on the o/s its been welded flat but should be fixable!
o/s rear quarter had holes in welding and was only held in place by filler at the bottom so looks like half a job there as well. The new panel hadnt been keyed either so paints just peeling off in strips round the arch! Looks like hes painted it, then re-primered it an repainted it though, also looks like different types of paint hes used.
What a f*cking clown!

What a **** for stealing your stuff as well, if you don't mind me asking what is outstanding/ lost?
I am looking forward to these pics, but I don't think it's going to be a pretty sight.

Problem is, he's tried to weld it to the rear valance which has gone thin. Instead of then saying "sod it, we need a rear panel or at least a repair panel the the other side of the towing eye", he's just carried on watching the panel disappear before giving up and plugging it full of shite!bss325i wrote:Jesus christ that was a brand new rear quarter panel was it not?!

And Anna's right. He's painted that panel, had reaction (or damaged it), so had to go over again, without keying up!
What a c*nt.

maybe the 1st attempt was still wet and clogged his glass paper!B7 wrote:bss325i wrote:Jesus christ that was a brand new rear quarter panel was it not?!

Really sorry to here that your pride and joy has ended up like this. Weve all been had by cowboys at some point and paintshops tend to employ the cream of the crop. Please dont take this the wrong way Steve, but when i saw the initial build pictures i was worried by the car sitting on tyres, the apparent lack of a proper booth (maybe that was missing from the photos), the lack of proffesionalism displayed by the guy getting his moobs out for the camera and the fact that they didn't remove the wings to prime it. Regardless of whether or not he agreed to do it after you mentioned it, it would have been too late in my eyes. He should know better if he's experienced. How much time is needed to strip the wings off- 2 hours max...
Is that micro-blistering along panel edges too? Fcuk me that is blatantly the work of incompetence. The guy obviously doesn't know when to give up.
I know you probably don't want to answer this, but how much did this guy quote you in the first instance? I'm sure other people here would be interested for comparative reasons. I've just had mine done and it was a lot of cash but I haven't needed to worry about a thing. I also know that if ever a problem does arise, that there will be no issues in taking the car back for resolution. Id be cutting my losses if it was that fcukwit though! I just wish there was some law against imcompetent fools like this going in to business in a trade they know nothing about. The problem is you no need no formal qualifications to work in a bodyshop.
I had some hideous repairs taken out of my car. Chicken shit welding and filler around the number plate recess. Quick fix apparently according to the self proclaimed Ferrari restoration specialist based in South Wales. That's why it pays to really do your homework on these places and you really do get what you pay for.
Anyway rant over and i hope it gets sorted soon mate. Look forward to the build up pics. On the plus side, its better that the shoddy workmanship was picked up now than in 12 months time when its too late....
Cheers,
Warren

He didnt steal it, just abandoned it outside at the yard when hes was evicted for not paying his unit rent!magpie wrote:so did he try to steal it [your cab Rob] or hide his work?
We took our recovery truck to collect as much as possible when Whipsey called with the news.
Steves not been seen since, id presume hes lying low for a while after this and will try and move to another part of the country, which is what weve since found out he does!
Ollie your welcome to pop and visit hun, were back on Tuesday and wouldnt mind taking a look at your car if ok?
All weve done since he left our unit in September is try and sort his messes out, he only shared our unit and wasnt anything to do with our business but we were had over just like everyone else so will stand by his ex customers/clients and do everything in our power to put things right!

Could you recommend me some? I am in northampton and am interested to know of any decent ones that don't charge extortionate fees.Graeme_W wrote:where are you getting teh work done now?
i work in wellingborough at a bodyshop and know of alot of good bodyshops in and around northampton area.
Rob. Yeh, it's grim. Looks like there's been an axe murder in the cab. And it's no way to treat a lady .. but don't get mad - get even! If you feel inclined, give trading standards a call and pass on as the details of this sh1ster. I'm sure you have contacts. If he starts trading again, at least you can warn the Zone of his location - as well as paying a visit and venting expletives all over his 'as$. I trust he's been locked out of the Zone? On the bright side - and yes, there is one - it looks complete and from the pictures, a very solid cab. And he appears to have left your new panels behind. Yeh, I know, that's not the point. Listen, take a deep breath, count to Ten, roll your sleves up and get back in there big guy. Perhaps your insurer may help out? All the best.
