And anyone with some more history knowledge knows that Baur helped to save BMW after World War II.

But allthough no-brainers like Spadge walk around, most people still know to appreciate the Baur's.

And, Spadge, read instead of posting, BMW had the choice between a Karmann and Baur E21 convertible.

There must be a reason why BMW choose for Baur. And asked them to build a Baur-convertible of the E30 and help them to design the E30 Convertible.

For the ones who appreciate nice Baur's, some pictures:

Lol you call me a 'no brainer' and then post pictures of the most putrid Baur's in an atempt to gain votes for it

Those things in the pictures are probably the nastiest looking turds i have ever seen and i would have no reservations about fragging any of them in all their collective ugliness :P

A Henna red 323i would be quite cool because such a thing wasn't available as a 'proper' convertible. Anything post '87 is just a bit pointless though...

Spot on - a full convertible is always going to be the better looking more desirable car - doesn't matter what it is - another good example is the early Jag XJS with the rollover bar - ugly as hell compared to the full convertible later model - which is about the only convertible I'd ever consider buying :)

..if the anti-baur thing is all about the hoop, do the Baur haters also dislike 911 Targas and MK1 Karmann Golfs?

Yes! They look trashy and 'cobbled together'. There is only one sensible option, and that is a proper E30 cab built by BMW.

Baurs remind me of the Top Gear team's attempt at a convertible using a Renault Espace...

Maybe it boils down to driving styles?

- targa motoring is all about driving in the countryside with a leggy blonde in the passenger seat who admires your innate sense of style and sophistation.

- baur-hating motoring is all about getting exicited by the 'sunroof delete' option and working out if you can get a top speed of 120 if you remove all the sound deadening and carpet

Targa motoring is about not being quite sure which side you wish to bat for.. So you go for the hamfisted semi convertible option..

Baur hating is about having taste and not liking the fussy details and the worst of both worlds options..

Yep given a choice of 911's I'd definately pick either a standard car or full convertible over a Targa every time.

The Golf Convertible has always looked like a skip with a roll-bar.

The Escort XR3i Cab was just as ugly.

Spadge, here,s a better idea. You buy it , frag, crush whatever
to it. You obvisously suffer from a very deep seated phobia
where the Baur is concerned, even if you paid the asking price, it would be cheaper than current counselling rates, surely.
C,mon mate, take it all out on this not particulary nice
specimen, and free yourself from hatred.
You know it makes sense. :P :P :P

With regards the the Baur, it's something rare and you don't see very often. Obviously the full cabrio with roof (and all windows) down looks beter but can be wobbly.

How much 'wind in the hair' experience do you get with a Baur?

911 targas are pretty gross, but I'd probably own one as they are the cheapest 911s and I am tight. I think 911s look especially stupid as a full convertible though, and I don't think there is a car you could buy that makes a worse statement about its owner. Utter wankmobiles.

The golf convertibles are sort of 'quaint' in their way, but I don't think anyone would call them beautiful. Baurs are just rubbish
