Hey guys, Im having trouble finding exactly which gauges the Hartge cars had fitted in their H35 cars. The cluster sits below the console.
I know one of them is oil pressure. Can anybody shed some light on this.
Thanks

didn't the Hartge gauges sit on top of the dash? the Alpina ones went above the ash tray. not that this is really important of course

Thats taken from H26/H27 options catalogue, there may have been others for other variants but i doubt it.

Any chance anyone could post photos of the gauges mounted on top of the dash? Cheers!

Thanks Simon. I thought they were mounted nearer to and angled toward the driver.
Anyone else got any photos?

Great Thanks Cabrio - I don't get to many of the meets, but I'll make more of an effort this year - I'll pm you nearer the time. If you come across any photos in the meantime - please give me a shout.
Cheers.

Is it true that BMW refused to fit the E32 730i Optionmeister with a credibility gauge for fear of upsetting trading standards????Andyboy wrote:Oil pressure, screenwasher jet pressure and a credibility gauge (with warning light).
Yes. When a certain 730i was proceeding down the Dingolfing production line in a non metallic shade of blue, the line workers looked in awe at the silver grey cloth, the two column stalks, the analogue clock and the lack of airs.
Line workers were heard to say "Sheisse Hans, dass muss ein Minicab. Wo befindet sich das Leder, die aircon? Das Eigeninteresse respektieren?"
Scouser - we may be Brothers in DoomBlueness - but since I optioned the motor up meself, I treasure my full black leather, my OBC, my cruise....my six cylinders.

They're probably just the same period VDO gauges that can be found in Golfs and Sciroccos - I know the BMW crew like to pinch them, although finding the senders in the right thread (what's BMW - M12?) can be a pain

Audi ones are different to VW ones (Audi used a different font as well as range, 5bar, 170C etc).
VDO made the main E30 cluster; are you sure the other stuff isn't VDO as well? The only pic I've seen on google marked as "Hartge" is definitely 80s period VDO gauges:

Probably added later though, as two needles are white and the third is orange ;)

Yeah don't think that an original hartge guage! look how the hartge sticker isn't centred and protrudes below the unit itself at the left!
I'm trying to find you a better pic than the one at the top of this thread but I can't. will keep looking though.

Heres some better pics, but the thread contents show that pretty much anyone could have made them, though you are right the ones pictured are made by VDO.

Well the first three gauges are standard VDO Vision gauges for battery, temp and oil pressure
Then there's the Alpina LEDS, then a set of VDOs from an Audi 80 5-cylinder (5-bar oil, Eurostile font), then your white-sticker E30 guages, then another standard set of VDOs taken from a MKII Golf (10-bar oil pressure, 150C oil temp and a standard thermal gauge -20C to +40C, all VDO Vision), then some cheap boost and airflow gauges, then some more Alpinas.
So if Hartge used any gauges, they used the same VDO ones everyone else was using at the time. And if you can't find them, the extra pod from an E30 taxi and some VW gauges would work just as well, if you can find a way of mouning the senders to your block.
