Ive been bidding on some parts for my E30's and my Golf.

It seems items are never as described.
Always the auction gets silly, to the point of being more expensive than the dealers!.

I think its called 'Shill bidding', where friends or the same person bids on their own items to make a superfluous price.

Post and package, mischief.

Where's the honesty in the world.

Cheers Gareth.

Yeah that's shill bidding

The other one's "bid shielding" where one bidder has 2 accounts and increases the maximum bid to a level where nobody'll bid any more, then they cancel the bid of one of the accounts so that they win the auction at a low price. I think eBay's rules about bid retractions pretty much stop this one happening now, but the shill bidding still happens :(

eBay is pants because there's money involved, and wherever there's money involved there's always people trying to scam others :-x

eBay's not always pants though, got a bargain today....well I'm hoping so....will post up pics in the pub section tomorrow when I pick it up for everyone to laugh at

it depends how far its taken.

bringing an item close to what its worth is ok, but some ppl (as in everything :( ) take it too far.

E-bay can be OK occasionally, I've had some bargains from it, but mostly, it seems to be timewasters, or people trying to make money from crap.
I really think it's down to your luck on the day too, as an example, I sold 2 foglight switches about 3 months ago, I sold them a week apart, first one sold for Ԛ£18, and the second for 99p!

That's still no excuse for dodgy bidding. If they just put a reserve, or a realistic starting price, then there would be no need to shill bid on things.

The problem with eBay is that most of the people on there are out to make money. People then get greedy, and this leads to people getting ripped off.

Honest, truthful people are a very rare breed these days. I like to think I'm one of them though :D

With regards to parts-I'd always check with the stealer first, cos if there's a couple of quid difference-i'd rather deal with the dealer....

easier to get to if problems etc

but for some stuff ebay is rather useful-just always bid in the last minute or so,stops some of the 'shill' bidding

I've bought and sold loads of items on Ebay and it's really good providing that sensible judgement is made.

This is a pair of items, I won. Went round with the cash,as I live Manchester to be greeted by his girlfriend.

Both the straps were old and broken, not new as stated in the ad. He even sold the parcel shelf broken, in a previous sale. ( I found this out when I got home).

I told his girlfriend that the items were clearly no use to me and that I cannot use them.

So I left.

Ebay contacted me today for payment of the fee for selling the item on ebay.

Shill bidding on some of his items he has sold?. And strange bid retractions. ref Moroheaven.

I didn't leave negative feedback, just left the whole sorry story, until today. I informed ebay tonight.

I've noticed strange bidding going on over the last few months. Now, I decide what I want to pay for the item, and wait until the last day of the auction before deciding if I'm going to bid.
A while ago, I found an item that I was interested in and e-mailed the seller several times asking questions and he seemed ok. No-one else had put on a bid, so about half way through the auction, I bid on it and within minutes, the seller ended. I e-mailed him again politely asking for an explanation but I never got a reply. Two hours later, the item was re-listed with a very unrealistic reserve!

Im reading this with interest,i bid on and one some replacement snap on sockets as id had some stolen when i was in london, ive got a wife and two daughters so money is at a premium in our house...so i paid for them, payment cleared and ive never recieved anything depite numerous emails and alerting ebay! all they can do at most is freeze the account, which doesnt give me stuff i paid for even though i could havedone without spending the money

I very rarely go on ebay now and doubt ill buy much of there unless i know the seller,it used to be good but now its just con merchants and liars (mainly, sorry you boys that sell honestly on there).

Rant over

If you use PayPal, and reported the dispute to eBay within 30 days, you can get your money back.

i ve had some bargins
but ive had some shite too
i won a car up north a e30 323 with dogbox and lsd .i spoke to the guy and fair enough he worked nights i worked 4 on 4 off, so we said wen i could come up , and on the day i was coming up i was let down by a mate . and couldnt go, next day iam on my way and hes given me a 6 p, deadline ,so iam running on time and as soon as i get on the m1
i stop ...18 car pile-up stops me getting any further so i had to give up i set in a q for hours . but he said hes giving my money to the next bidder and selling it to him.. that pissed me off . not my fault i couldnt get up . so would of gone the next day too but he didnt want to know.

i got home and sent some emails to him , and some links to traffic reports about 2 pile-ups now . if i had of got passed ,,ther was another further up.. 8O
anyway i waited for a reply ..no answer to his phone . so paypal sorted me out in the end . got my money back that way.

but then ive had bargins too. so iam happy with ebay
iam becoming more and more switched on with it so i am getting good at it.

It isnt always pants.

It depends on what market your dealing with.

I recently bought a MINT Ԛ£1000 CD player for a mere Ԛ£170.

A yamaha Ԛ£2300 home cinema processor for Ԛ£250

Mission Speakers which cost Ԛ£1000 for Ԛ£200

Another set of mission speakers which are Ԛ£250 for Ԛ£70

All the above were picked up from peoples houses and they were not of the dodgy variant at all. Infact, all middle class very well off people.

Its the Automotive section and computer sections amongst others that are the worst.

Active sub is better bought brand new dude. Used ones can be unreliable as you have no idea how many times its been hammered to its limits.

Rel Q201 is excellent and costs about the same as a 325i that needs some work!

Rel subs range from around Ԛ£300 - Ԛ£4000.

With normal speakers its alot easier to tell if they have a hard life.

Anyway, better stop talking about this before we get told off for not talking about e30's!
