Hello!

I'm Rab, and I've joined up as I'm wanting an E30 BMW of some description to run about in next year. Heard on Passionford that this was the place. :D

So, expect alot of stupid questions about various cars over the next couple of days.

What would people reccomend for a decent buy, for generally commuting on the motorways, and a bit of fun at the weekends?

325i Sport, 318is?

Cheers for you help people.

Ha ha ha. Passionford has become PassionBMW over the last few years anyways....

I want a 2 door, more fun than useful, and no more than 2k. Otherwise the wife will batter me :?

Welcome to the fun house Rab.

You've already hit the real 2 options - 325 or 318iS - in my opinion.

My choice if you have a lot of motorway commuting would be the 318iS, and it is still fun when you take it down the lanes. :P

For cruising it has to be a 325, they just eat up the miles and on a run the fuel economy isnt too bad at all :) and of course you get the 6 pot soundtrack and smooooth power delivery :)

If it were me I would have either the 318is or a 325i. I've been looking at prices the last couple of weeks and there are lots of good examples around for your 2,000 budget.

Good luck and welcome! :)

Thanks for the welcome folks!

I am straying towards the 325i, as I just love the soundtrack. :D I will be doing a re-fit on my ship so instead of being at sea, going to be in Liverpool, staying in a hotel for 6 months. Means I get to go home every weekend. Did the same thing last year and used my MR2, but it's far too impractical. I can barely fit my laptop in the boot, and if someone wants a lift, thats it.... I'm wedging bags in the front in top of the spare wheel. Would be so nice to have 4 seats and a boot again. I've always loved E30 BMWs, but have a hankering for an E36 too....

Would have to get finance on an E36, and not keen on that as I'm already paying for the wifes car....

I've heard the 318iS is a revvy little bugger, but that 6 pot noise is too hard to pass over. 8)

If anyone spots a nice 325 or 318iS, drop me a pm with the link

Anyone tell me what I look for, apart from the obvious crash damage etc... :D

Hello mate welcome to the zone. You could get a 325i sport for that money. good choice with the e30 hunt. but out of the two i'd go for a 325.

Good luck in the search and be sure to post the car you fall for on here

325 everytime mate.. iS is alot of fun but it aint a patch on the 2.5..

as to what to look for..buy on condition not spec, look out for rot in the following places..rear arches, rear panel (where the boot meets the lights) front jacking points, scuttle panel, round the sunroof and inner wings

and dont, repeat DONT buy an E dirty sick..i,ve tried 2 and they are not a good car, E30 325i sport is where its at mate (tech two imo) :thumb:

welcome to ground zero winkeye

for 2 grand i would stay clear of a sport as the chances are it will have issues (unless your lucky)...you'll pick up a 325i SE or 318iS in twice the condition for the same money and then upgrade any cosmetics/suspension later on (or with any spare change) as and when you fancy, or have the cash.

i must agree with that there for 2k i would go for the ise or is as youll pick up one of them in better nick than you will a sport with your budget and youll have cash left over to spend on it to upgrade. there was a really tidy silver 318is went on ebay tonight for a little over £700 and it had a service history up to 114k and had only covered 120k

I take it the 325i Sport is becoming a rarity? Modern classic type of thing? 8)
