Can you get reconditioned bootlid struts? - I'm looking for an economic fix assuming new OEM replacements are expensive and used struts of the same vintage would presumably have the same issue. thanks

Mine work fine, secondhand working ones would be as good and half as cheap. I would expect the sport struts to be of a higher quality since they lift the extra weight of the spoiler, you haven't put a spoiler on lately have you?

I don't think anyone bothers reconditioning these as they are so cheap.

We talking convertible or touring? I believe people use the struts from the front seats as a replacement for the convertible boot.

The seat strut work on the horse shoe.

My convertible is the same but i have a tech2 spoiler.I have tried 2 sets of second hand ones which haven,t help. Also tried ford focus ones which worked but where to strong and raised the back corner of the boot lid slightly.

I'm sure the cab's don't have torsion springs, there isn't room for them in the boot! is there???

The cab uses gas struts. One (on the left) on early cars, two (one each side) on late cars. Can't comment on whether late cabs have torsion bars, but early ones don't & I can't see where they'd go!

Boot struts from a MINI are readily available at most scrappies, almost always in good nick (being nearly new!), fit fine (slightly different clips though), and one is easily enough to hold your boot up.

Seat struts are indeed what you want for the hood cover (horseshoe). :thumb:

 Mine's '87 & I thought that (1 strut) was the 'early' way of doing things!
