Right then, been saying i was gonna get it done since last winter, but i know nothing about them and don't really know where to start!!

Now my bulbs have started failing (down to one headlight and one, oppostie, sidelight now!!) i think it's time to upgrade.

What are the options for HID conversions???

Any suggestions, advice, guidelines etc???

I want good ones!!

Easy to fit?? (I'm a lazy/busy sod so would prefer a setup someone else can do for me really!!)

Cheers,
Rob.

A few threads for you to look at. some good info in the first one.

As for ease of fitting, I managed it with no issues and even Cliffy did! :o

Feel free to ask if you want any more info.

The best HID conversion I have seen are on Demlot's car.

I've been chasing old Demlot for ages to get mine done on the e34 and e30 but he just doesn't have the time.

I've tried normal one box Ignitor & Ballast and bulb conversion but haven't been impressed at all with them.

Is there a guide as to how Demlot does it?

Cheers guys!!

Should've done a search but night shifts stop the brain working properly!!!!

I remember speaking to Demlot about it actually, might have to get in touch with him about this!!

Looking at some of those other posts, i presume you buy one kit to do your normal (dip) headlights only.
Can the kits be used on other lights too then??

So if i really wanted to (not saying i would!!), I could use a 4300K kit for my normal headlights, a 6000K kit for my main (high) beams and could even use another kit in my fog lights????

Gonna have a browse on the bay!! Intresting!!!

Just looking at the first ebay jobbie i found - Clicky

It shows a little colour temp chart.

Just wondering how yellow the 3000K (or lower) lights really are?? Anyone know if the pic of the 2300K is fairly accurate??
Anyone used 3000K or lower kits??

My hella smokies give of a pretty yellowish light at the mo and i kinda like it!! Could be tempted to go for a 2300/3000K kit for my normal headlights and then stick a 6000K kit in my main beams for when i really need to see!! Is that a do-able idea???

I would not use the HIDs on your High Beam, as they dont like to be "flashed" on and off quickly.......

correct. the cheapo kits certainly take a wee minute to settle down after switching on.

FYI VW Golfs with Xenon's dont use that for High Beam. Just the regular normal type bulb for that reason.

TBH Though if you like the Yellowy effect. Just get a replacement set of reflectors (in the headlight) and some brighter regular bulbs.

Hadn't thought of that!!! Won't use them for the main beams then!!!

Rich, as much as i quite like the yellow - i'd rather have the better visibility, as i do a lot of night driving!!!!

Has anyone used a 3000K kit or seen how yellow they look???

Looking like 4300K is gonna be the best choice really though!!

Anyone know if the kit in the link i posted is any good - or any particular one that is worth searching out??

Demlots mod is meant to be brilliant but (necessarily) pricey.

FWIU he uses either Audi TT or X5 projector lenses and associated parts then modifies E30 headlights to accept them. Maybe its something you could do yourself? How much would a pait of headlights for an X5 be from a scrappy?

I'll look into that before i buy anything!!

Found some more expensive ones on ebay - one for £160 and one for £210 - both guarantee to pass MOT and meet all UK regs, etc.
Few other things it says make me want to believe they are better than the cheap kits too, but i'll look into this a bit further!!!

I have got a hid kit to and looking to do a proper conversion which is E46/TT projectors with the proper d2s bulb bases, d2s bulb and the bosch ballast (REAL!), new parts not second hand.

From what i have found out you can put hid kit into our e30 as they have projectors, and may have good results with the right bulbs (no bluey chavey bulbs, which i got and hate!! crap lighting), but because they are halogen projectors they will not have the wide flat beam spread as the new bmw, merc, audi, hence HID Projectors.

here is a list of parts your can "retrofit" as this is how i believe "demlotcrew" does it. Retrofit from what i have seen is not hard, only need someone who is technical minded, which i believe there quiet a lot og people on here.

This is what i have been looking at recently, but have pm'd demlotcrew but think he's to busy to reply.
anyway....

Complete Bosch Xenon D2S HID Projector Package:

If you are looking for a complete package solution for your HID needs, please consider our Bosch/Hella/Philips package. This option gives you a cost effective parts kit to replace critical H.I.D. parts that may have been damaged.

that everything you need to "sandwhich" in to you headlight for a proper pukka hid conversion, you have to play about with it to set it right, but once that done, fantastic results.

LOOK @@@@ the price, with today's exchange rate, i think thats fantastic.

What you guys think?
