I was driving a mate's chipped Mit GTO 10 years ago. Speedo didn't work since the speed limiter was taken off but we raced a bloke in a Honda NSX on a dual carrigeway. Don't know how fast we went but it was like play station with each car dipping and dropping back as we changed gear then slowly catching back up.

Went as fast as it would go in fourth and started to pull away from NSX reving hard in 5th.

Bit silly really.

160+mph (GPS) E30 M3.

160+mph Z4 Alpina (with roof down)

155mph in Audi S4 (did say more on GPS)

Probably various other cars I haven't mentioned...

On the back of a bike 140mph on the way to the 'Pod. Scary as hell! If I fell off only my Dad and Toby_Unna to run me over 8O

Riding on myself about 100mph over some fields :)

The fastest I've ever driven is 119mph in a mk4 Astra 1.8 SRi until a Mondeo pulled out in front of me on an otherwise empty dual carriageway driving back from London!

The fastest I've ever got from my 316i is 110mph and that was redlining it in 5th racing a 1.6 mk5 Escort 1 month after I got it. To get to that speed my cousin was telling me when to change gear because I was too scared to take my eyes off the road! What a wetty!! I was well impressed with the old girl because I was actually sticking with the Escort until I had to turn off. I have never been so scared because before that, the fastest I had ever driven was 60mph in my parents 1.3 mk1 Astra!

The things that have felt the scariest driving flat out though are doing 40mph in my uncle's 40 yr old lorry engined tractor and flat out in a golf buggy on Cheddington golf course. I have never felt so vulnerable!!

I very rarely top the ton though because my cousin's a copper and he said that if you get caught doing more than 100mph it's an instant ban! I couldn't bear not being able to drive my E30.

No denying it's a rush to push beyond the ton, and any decent car is now capable of cracking over 130,

The real buzz is how quick it gets there - Super-bikes, tuned E30's (Mentioning no names fuzzy), M3's, 911's, Ferrari and so on :D

How did you manage to get that out of a Fiat 126?! Most I ever saw out of mine, flat out downhill, was an indicated 80mph (which was scary enough - they're very susceptible to sidewinds).

Fastest I've been is an indicated 147 in my E34 535i.

I thought top speeds on 126's were 60mph?? With a good wind behind them they'd be airborne!

Those were made from backs of cornflakes boxes and powered by rubber bands and 9v battery

I was young and stupid enough to drive my 1973 Fiat 126 (with 594cc 23bhp 'engine') in the 1987 hurricane, and got blown about all over the shop. Passing lorries on motorways were a hair-raising experience and I almost went up the back of one when the throttle return spring broke while maxing it down a dual carriageway.

Ive done near 140 mph in my old e30 325i sport

135 mph in a brand new jag xkr but had to brake coz someone pulled out into the fast lane.

I went off the clock in my works van yesterday, which is a vauxhall vivaro 2.5 cdti......The last number is 120 mph, so i reckon i was doing about 125ish, down hill.

Now then e36boy, Just a quick Q. What was the rev counter reading at at 140??
Was the car stable, any lightness at all? I'm curious as the book suggests 137 top end and I've seen 120. The car was stable and smooth and I'm sure I could have gone more but bottled out.

The revs were at 6k and it was screeming so i didnt stay there that long.......No it didnt feel safe either, Very light and twitchy. I have heard of people doing over 140 in sports but dont no if they are telling porkys or not. When i did 140 i was racing a new civic type R and i couldnt get near him, so god knows what speed he was doing

Funny really as I've heard the about people cracking 140 too. I saw Shaz's video of him doing 150, but that was tuned (I think)

I stayed with a the old type R a couple of years ago, but not top end. Kept with him until we hit traffic.
That was an eye opener especially for him. I was more than happy watching his face in the rear view mirror :D

Ive hit the indicated 140 on the clocks and i felt the car was stable enough for the speed it was going, but unfortunatly my fan belt snapped and i almost shit myself when all the warning lights came on and the coolant boiled
