Right, im gonna sound like im a cheap skate here but i'm not....honest. I need a new wheel bearing for my 318iS.

Anyway, i went onto gsf and checked out the prices.

B40020 WHEEL BEARING KIT-FRONT E30 318iS 89>91 £41.00

B40020A WHEEL BEARING KIT-FRONT E30 318iS 89>91 £22.50

I take it that the cheaper one is a non genuine?

These seem quite expensive for a piddly bearing? As the ones for my mini were only like 10-15quid.

Im quite happy to pay that but is that the usual price?

And am i better off getting genuine ones?

Just checking.

James. :D

Neither of those parts are genuine !

The cheaper one comes with a new nut that's 0.5mm too large for the 36mm socket and needs filing to fit

Dig deep and get the dearer one.

Genuine wheel bearings from the dealer are about £80 iirc.

Cheers,

Changed one of my front bearings last month. I bought from the dealer and it cost about £80. Mind you it also cost me another £80 to buy a 36mm socket and a torque wrench big enough to pull 220Nm or something close to it.

To remove the old nut took my 18" power bar plus a 5ft tube on the end. After standing on the bar the nut cracked - and yes I had knocked out the flange from the dimple.

Best of luck with yours.

James,

I fitted one from GSF a few months back and no probs so far. I would make sure that you do tighten the bugger up to the specified 220Nm, just in case like  I have a 400Nm torque wrench / 36mm socket here if your in need of them for a shottie..

Just to let anyone know in future that e28 wheel bearing hubs really do fit an M3 as have just done it on my own car. however make sure you got a decent puller to get the old abs ring off............
