i drove one of these when i worked for bmw , if i remember the pannels on this are plastic which drops the weight nicely, there is an under tray that covers the entire underneath of the car for aero dynamics, and the doors drop into the side sills, the car feels like a go kart's big brother
if there wern't people like me,
with cars like mine,
who would you put down to make yourself feel better?

The yellow Z1s are colour coded 'Fun Yellow'.

Which makes them by default incredibly cool.

Can't see anything to not like about it really. (Well apart from the lack of power)
I can testify at the last south west meet, bruces zed left all the standard 325s for dust. looked bloody stable at high speed on the m5 as well (obviously never exceeding 70) winkeye

wait til he puts the 2.7 in. :D

This Poll is shaping up, quite nicely....

Love the Z1, really does look timeless and some of the extras it's got, were good for it's time.

I'd still have a E30 cab tho'

Z1 is nothing like an e30. It shares a power plant and possibly a couple of incidentals. Superb car.

Sorry, I didn't mean they weren't quicker than an E30. More that with those looks you would expect more like 240hp rather than 170hp

Except the Germans could engineer a system that actually worked, the French obviously made their initial Smart designs out of brie.

Wasn't the z1 launched in the mid 80's?

IIRC they were just an engineering concept, exploring the feasability of making a car with very unique aerodynamics and meccano fixability.

Mercedes bits, all built in France. For the purpose of my inslut, I decided they'd been designed there too.

They are an absolute crock of dogs mess.

Oh, Mercedes doesn't exactly add brand enhancement either!

If I were in the market, it would have to be a Z1 every time.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

But it's not though is it? It has E30 running gear and a 325i lump but the way it handles and drives is total different. Nowhere near as lardy as an E30 cab.

I'd have one but L/H drive only and rare as fook. I'd be afraid of someone pranging the thing! Plus up to £20,000 for one kinda prices me out at this stage in life.

Worth reading the clicky to Bruces write up. The aerodynamic design is amazing, even down to the exhaust back box adding to rear downforce. Stuning car which has aged beautifully.
