BMW should re launch a limited edition e30 for fun! I would
Moderator: martauto
If I worked for the BMW design team I would suggest building the follwing:
Limited edition of 1000
Use the original design for the m3 e30 which they must have scrunched up somewhere.
then squeeeeeeze in the new V8 m3 engine but leave off the traction control and any other rubbish.
Include some luxuries i.e climate control etc. So it is a brand new e30 but the original shape but with a monster engine under the bonnet.
It could go horribly wrong but also could go very right.
£62000 is what I would charge and every one would be sold before they could say voila!!
What do you recon?????

I agree, but maybe they could try and fit the M5 V10 in there???? do a proper job if they were going to all the effort.......

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Good idea but BMW who are in business to turn a profit, a limited run and extra costs associated with it would make even £62k price tag uneconomical for them to even consider it.
Now if you scaled down the engine and spec, found 5000+ people willing to put a firm order and deposits down and you might be able to twist their arms, but thats a big ask.
If your really serious why not purchase the intelectual rights to the e30 design and make them yourself in your shed, caterham did it with the lotus7.

Too true but I couldn't see it being too costly as they have all the equipment etc etc.
IWith the German efficiency it would be a doddle. I am going to write to them and suggest it. But maybe build a few more as you said.
They should have done this instead of making the new 1 series I mean what were the designers on???? No offense to any one who has a 1 series but why???

Sorr but its not that easy have you heard of oppertunity cost?
it is the money you loose by doing one thing versus another - they build an awful lot of 1 series' regardless of if you like them or not, they appeal to the affluant and wanna be affluant older/younger person, they appeal to alot of people. The e30 does not have that sort of appeal any more.
If they stop using machines currently producing 1 series or 3 series or whatever then to manufacture the e30 the will surely loose money, it takes alot of time for a machine shop to set up something as complex as that and time is money.
Also the robot the factories use now are different to the production methods used even 5 years ago let alone 20 years ago. They will all need to be programmed and adapted to cope with this new work.
Realistically it would cost hundreds of millions of £, to even get off the ground.
You would be better off buying your V10, a sound e30 and if you must strip it to the chasis and bolt/weld on new body parts purchased from BMW, and getting the interior recovered with new cloth, and wam bam you got what you wanted in the first place.
Apart from the shell I think you can still buy everything new or reconditioned from BMW still, so theres your £62k, build it yourself.
Or find or start a private firm to manufacture new shells based on the e30 desgin and build them 'new' yourself.

A new e30 probably wouldn't pass some tree hugging predestrian safety, save a whale test or something.

£62000 isnt exactly customer friendly. who'd spend that much on a 20 year old design with no comforts?. and with no driver aids it wouldnt be long before you would find them in the salvage yards allowing us financially challenged to salvage the engines for our original e30's.

Naah, for 62k it would be bargin. Some comforts just no traction to make it leathal and not for the faint hearted. When you think of how fast it would be it's bargin. It certainly would not be in my budget ,lol.
It is still better than a lot of ideas and rubbish these designers come up with..
is that your car with 282bhp????

Isnt car copyright shorter than music, literature etc? i.e like after 20 years after they stop being made anyone can produce a similar looking car?
