Look it over and if you want it buy it. Its pennies.
Generally cheap cars will cost a lot on parts, but it's so cheap that you might as well buy it if you like the car.

Steel wheels and a 4 door, needs to be cheap, try him at £250...whats the drivers seat like?
At the end of the day, a car is worth what someone wants to pay for it.
If its within your budget, cheaper insurance, tax and tested for a while, its cheap E30 motoring!!
Its a first step on the ladder, and as you say, in a couple of years you can move up.
Sounds a good idea to me!

Value it solely on the condition of the shell and paintwork. If it's a good sound shell, (and in my experience base models like this often have), then it's worth the money. Especially if you have a specced up rusty turd to spec it up with.

Lets see your purchase then boys??
WHy not keep the other rusty turd as a stripped out track project, especially as you've had some welding done on it. Do I remember you guys paying a pretty penny for the welding work too??

before you go the lowering/exhaust/wheels route you might want to have a trusted mechanic go over it with a magnifying glass. Also I'd get the coolant, oil and brake fluid changed. Possibly the diff oil too if you want to treat her right! No history isn't the end of the world but you should really start from scratch with the servicing.
It might be boring, but you look like a twat on the hard shoulder no matter how good your wheels are ;)
Then again, I'm just a boring old fart

I got my 316 toruing for 240.
It was in good shape apart from a few bits of rust. I then proceeded to destroy it. And still am.
Its fun.
Sounds like a good buy chaps, enjoy. (and do what morat said)
