Isn't there some "uninsured benevolent fund"? Sure I've heard of one, usual payouts I believe are things like being hit by uninsured drivers etc. May be worth looking into that too, again, worst case they say no.
But he was insured, he just didn't disclose all the facts... :?

If it's any consolation, if this car was just insured as a bog standard 1987 325, then the payout would have been peanuts anyway. Insurance companies, in their ignorance, just see a twenty year old banger dodging the scrapyard, and pay out accordingly. The car's gone, so you have no way of proving anything different.

Anytime you take out a policy you are asked for details of any previous convictions/accidents and any details of modifications from standard. I don't see how you can complain that you've been ripped off? In fact, I think the phrase you're all searching for is "CAUGHT OUT" rather than "RIPPED OFF".

Come on people we ALL know the rules regarding insurance. If you choose to not play by those rules then don't complain when it blows up in your face! Trading standards will also most likely tell you to P*** off so I wouldn't bother crying to them.

sorry but + 1

insurance would have asked you about any accidents regardless of fault or claims in the last 5 years it was your duty to mention it.

As for the wheels you should have not mentioned them, the theives have your car so mr insurance wouldn't know the are there in the first place unless you told them!

I am absolutly anal when I get insurance claims and tell them everthing to avoid situations like this. I even have a list of mods which even goes as far as listing E36 electric window switches!! I will always ask for a fax number to send this too and make sure they know everything.

If anything changes I phone them right away and get the policy ammended! Rather safe than sorry.

I also keep upto date photos of my car, incase it goes walkies I have proof of its current state to get the best possible price in event of a claim. Insurance companies are just posh bookies, they take the risk on you loosing or mashing your car up as such they don't want to pay out if they don't have to.

They are after all running a business, and not charity.

Unfortunatly the claim in Question was a stolen Motorcycle that i owned for less than 2 weeks before some little scrote made off with it
I couldnt even remember the registration and this was in 2004
So its not a case of getting "Caught out" at all its a case of forgetfullness

But the light at the end of the tunnel is that i just bought my 1St ever E30 back off Bazza93
Cheers Bloke see you at Lakeside
