I dropped my sump guard into the fabricator this afternoon, he will be getting back to me on monday or tuesday once he knows what material is available of the shelf for the large plate, once that has been decided he will be able to quote me a price, obviously depending on how many we want, so a list of those interested would help.
I will start a new thread in Group Buys for the list. linky

The two brackets that are on the ends of the tube sit on the chassis rails at the front, I can jack the front end of my car up on it.
Did you take that pic ed?
Looks familiar

Sorry guys but these weigh a ton!
Its only good for those who are fitting M5*/S50 engines, i would make a custom sump for this type of engine transplant anyway (instead of using a sump guard)

Custom sump,,,,, Not everyone has bottomless pits of money to lay out on things like that, dont forget this also means a custom oil pump will be needed. My aim is to provide these under £100, making them a very worthwhile piece in my eyes. If you can think of anything better at similar money then please, do tell.
As for weight, I bet your air con system is 300% heavier
If it is of concern I will get the thing on the scales, all depends how much you value your sump really
I looked into making a custom sump for mine, and after 3 revised drawings I realised the complexities of it were huge. Big cost I reckon. If you know otherwise let me know I'd love to gain sump clearance.Demlotcrew wrote:Sorry guys but these weigh a ton!

No they don't - no more than 30kg iircDemlotcrew wrote:Sorry guys but these weigh a ton!
They should be relatively easy to fab up - bit of tube bent in a couple of places with chassis brackets welded on the end and a 3/8ths steel skidplate welded to the tube and drilled to suit at the back to fit onto the crossmember.
If weight is an issue use 10mm/12mm dural as the skid plate ala escort slyle - you'd need a couple of brackets to bolt the plate to the tube

30kg is not alot?
Dan my AC system weight has been off set by the loss of other weight around the front of the car only. (and relocation of things i cant remove)
Over all it has brought the weight up but only by about 10kg, and tbh thats hardly a loss when the gains are far more in comparison.
The reason i say its heavy is because of where its going to be placed and you M5* boys need all the help you can get with getting balance back to stock.
Dan my stock S14 is still quite a bit quicker than E36 328i with all the 'power' upgrades.
Just ask Theo his 335i fully stripped out E30 and only him (and he doesnt weigh anything) in the car and its still slower than my fully loaded (with AC) '323is' and a 110kg passenger. (in any gear and any speed)
Im not only looking at the total curb weight of my car but also the rear/front ratios.
STE There are other options out there for the sump (dry sump cough cough)
YOu know its the right way to do it

I would be surprised if they weigh much more than 10kg, no way 30 though.
If you are building a race car then yes I can understand the less weight thing, then again, how many speed humps do you find on a race track. IMO this is the most cost effective way for a day to day vehicle.

^ Thats not a sump guard, it fits from the front cross member back towards the gearbox, covering the bellhousing etc. I think it should be fitted to all E30s.

This is the sump guard for the facelift E30s (which I really must get around to fitting
)

There is a guy on the SELOC website who has made around 100 sumpguards now for the PBMWC cars; and is on 'revision 3' and they are constantly being improved.
Galvanised mild steel, with mounting bolts to fit the M20 or M40 engines.
I have one and wouldnt dream of attempting to fabricate something that could compare. I think mine was £95 posted.
